Journey from Amsterdam to Zurich

We are planning to travel on the overnight train from Amsterdam to Zurich on the 9th August.  I would like to reserve seats but it says ‘no seat reservation required, you can buy a seat reservation if you like but it’s not required’.  How do we reserve a seat?  When you click on the message, nothing happens.

For the sleeper train, you can book couchettes or cabins on ÖBB, starting from €34. Add Interrail as a discount, and select ‘One way tickets and day tickets’

https://shop.oebbtickets.at/en/ticket

It doesn’t seem to offer seat-only reservations

Sure it does. You can book them in the same way (NOT with "Seat reservation only”):

It’s possible to book seat reservations for this train with ÖBB, but not that way. ;-)

You need to select „seat reservation only”.

It’s just 3€ instead of 4,50 € or 5,90 € with DB.

You did have a look for Amsterdam to Wien, not Zürich...

Oops, my bad. Yes, for the night train to Zurich you should indeed use ÖBB and select the IC with the same timetable as the NJ.

@helen19 Best way is to book here Tickets & Services (oebbtickets.at) by selecting “seat reservations only”.

It doesn’t seem to offer seat-only reservations, but you could try on bahn.com, as suggested above.

You forgot to include details about the trains involved but since reservation is optional, it sounds like it's journey using day trains. In that case, it's best to book reservations via bahn.com; use the "Seat only” option. That's a lot cheaper than via Interrail: €4.50 (€5.90 in 1st class) for the whole journey instead of €8 per train.
