Is there a direct train connection from Sofia to Bucharest in August? Or do I have to change trains in Vidin and Craiova?

Only in summer.

Faster than via Craiova will be leaving at 7.05 to Gorna Orjahovitsa and then changing one more time in Ruse (also BG border there). Arrival in Bucuresti would be at 17.08.

Check the timetable with deutsche Bahn for example

@MartinM This connection runs only until 8 June 2023, after which the fastest connection is: Sofia --> Gorna Oryahovitsa --> Giurgiu Nord --> Bucuresti Nord. This connection takes 11h16min instead of 10h3min.
