Seat reservation via the train company direct (SNCF)

So if I can’t get seat reservations on any of the trains I need to be on, then if I’m in France can I book just the seat reservation with the train company?  When I go on their site, there is not the option for just the seat only?

SNCF removed the possibility to book pass holder seats from their website. But in France you can go to a ticket office or use a ticket machine (the white ones from Grandes Lignes). The ticket machines sell reservations for domestic journeys in France and for some international journeys (to Switzerland IIRC).

Whether you can buy them there depends on the cause of "can’t get seat reservations”.

You could buy them in France directly but TGVs could sell out for this summer so I'd recommend to book them in advance, for example at : https://travel.b-europe.com/Eurail-GE/en/booking-tgv#TravelWish

I have never seen this site.  Is it a part of the Eurail app?  I’ve tried booking through the Eurail app and the Eurail website and never seen this page. 

So I’m on it now. If I go on it and want to book the 10.20,  it seems to automatically put me on the 12.40.  that’s ok, so I’ve ticked 2nd class and an amount of 20Euro comes up - I take it that is the seat reservation and that I buy that, and then just add the journey to my pass.

Also on the booking site, when I work through the seat reservation purchase for 20Euro on the 12.40 direct Avignon-Paris, it states:

‘high flex’ - what does that mean. 

It also states Free Seat Reservation included? - really confused as I am paying for it?

The link mentioned here is a web page of Belgian railways. The rail planner app is completely separate: it cannot book reservations and will not show reservations you have booked.

Which link do you mean? And what do you mean by "didn’t allow my Eurail pass”?

A community member gave me this link.  When I tried to book a seat it asked for my pass number.  I put it in and it wouldn't accept it but cMe up with an internal number

Italiarail wants to have a pass cover number, just like the B-europe booking page above. That is on the cover of a paper pass, or if you have a mobile pass, you can generate one here:

Thank you.  So I did that.  I got to the end and of the purchasing of the ticket and the site declined the purchase because my NZ telephone number is not accepted.  I am bewildered as they have the option to choose NZ.

Did you add the correct NZ code +64 at the start of your telephone number ? If +64 doesn't work, try 0064

Thank you for checking in.  I’ve just tried it 10mins ago and yes it did!!!  I’m just waiting now for them to confirm that I actually do have a seat.  Fingers crossed.  this is amazing help and this is what I wanted - direct train, with a seat, reasonable hour to leave- no stress involved, no lugging bags, no short platform changes .  I can’t thank you enough for your help.  I hope I get the seat.
