Yes it is a terminology problem. It is a problem I have with a lot of software (40 years of using computers). Things may be simple once you get into them and to the developers, but to those of use who are new to the software, it takes a bit of getting your head around. There are so many queries about using the Eurail app in forums like this, that it is quite obvious that things could be clearer. Part of the problem is, you can’t fully test and play with the app until you catch your first train. There is quite a bit of money involved which certainly makes me cautious about what I do inside the app, which is why I’m not loading the pass until much nearer the trip start. Now that I’m getting more familiar with things, as long as it works on the day, it seems a reasonable app.It is the ideal app to have a trial set of data that could have a dummy pass, look up timetables and generate blank ticket QR codes etc. Of course that could generate another set of problems, but nothing that couldn
Interesting as I am planning for our summer trip. On the app, I created a trip for each country we will be travelling in, as that seemed like a reasonable way to organise things. But it doesn’t seem to be the Eurail way, and I can see no way of unlinking a trip and joining another one to the same pass. Is this possible, or am I better off redoing all the journeys in one trip folder? There doesn’t seem to be an easy way to copy/move a journey to another trip folder. I’m slowly getting my brain around the Eurail terminology. I’ve actually bought the passes, but not yet loaded them.
…..and I don't see that message when I start a booking. That’s odd. I tried again both with and without running a vpn through Austria (just in case that was something to do with it.) The trip was Krakow Glowny to Wien and I chose a random date of 15th April. The 07:27, 10:45, 15:19 & 22:42 all gave the message, the 14:06 did not, but it is the only direct service. Not going to worry about is as I can book the Krakow - Katowice on the PKP site and Katowice - Wien on the OBB site. runner on railsThanks, really interesting to see the mix between the different countries. Google translate helped me understand it a bit better. 😀
Thanks for the replies all. I reserved seats on that route over öbb: Many thanks as I had discounted the OBB booking. When first looking at that option, I was looking for trains from Krakow to Vienna, but got the message “Please mind: ticket pick-up at self-service machines only within Austria!”, which as I live in New Zealand and going to Poland first, is likely to be a bit difficult. However, using Katowice as the starting point that message does not come up and it looks as though the purchase will go through. Thank goodness! I guess the self-service message was because the trip included a local Polish connection. The PKP website can only sell reservations for domestic journeys, not for international ones, but that doesn't say anything about the pass validity. (also noted by MartinM.) From what I know now, that makes sense, but it is not something that I’ve read anywhere - and I’ve done a lot of reading over the past month. I guess that Polrail will be using the OBB system for their
