Thanks for the info!
Thanks to all of you. Thibcabe, I’ll look into the possibility of going via the Gotthard line. I don’t mind sacrificing an hour.Cheers!!!
Thanks, Ralderton! Yeah, Hamburg last summer was a madhouse; we took a regional train that was filled to the max with crowds staning. It got rowdy; there was a screaming match, the train stopped, the police came. Adventure. :)
I love the diner car! :) And I had to do that last summer in Germany at the height of the 10-Euro mania. But that was summer. As for Switzerland, a few have told me that you don’t need reservations, but when I look at a journey from Bern to Venice for May 22nd, it says “seat reservations required” (on the app). Furthermore, when I go to the SBB website, I see no option to just by seat reservations (I had no trouble with this on OBB or DB). Maybe I’m missing something???
Thank you Ralderton and Yorkie! That helps. Regarding reservations in Germany, isn’t there a good chance that 1st class from Frankfurt to Basel would be sold out May 29th? Os is that later in the season?
I’m all set for my Florence to Milan to Lugano (I’ll board a regional to Lugano) but Thibcabe brings up a point. How does the system know I have a 1st class pass? I had to pay a couple Euros extra on the website and should not have had to if I’m carrying a 1st class pass.
Hi Thibcabe, yeah, I should have booked 2 together but the two seats Florence to Milan are 5D and 13 D. Not a disaster if we can’t sit together for a couple hours.
Yes, you’re right that you can do 2 people at once. Say, why it asks for an extra 4 euros for 1st class but our Eurail Pass is for 1st class. I’m looking at 29 May going Milan Centrale to Lugano. Do you think the regional or any other trains will be booked? Should I skip the reservation. 22 euros total seems hefty for a short ride with a railpass.
OKAY, I figured it out. I was clicking on seat reservation only--I have to click as if buying a ticket. If I book for both my wife and myself, what guarantee is that we can sit together? THank you guys!! You’re angels.
So I just tried Florence to Milan for May 29th, one person with discount --it still sees NO TICKET. I’m sure I’m doing something wrong. I also tried for 4th May, same result. I can’t believe that there are no tickets for any train. Scott
Hi RVDborgt, so if my wife and I want to do the two segments, I need to book four, seat reservations separately? Thanks! Your assistance is greatly appreciated!Scott
Thank you for the advice. SO just to make sure I have it right: I can use “trip planner” to ‘store’ my segments even though I haven’t yet activated the pass. I buy seat reservations on national websites (I’m comfortable with German Rail) and print them out or take screen shots on my phone. When I arrive at Frankfurt International, I activate the pass (even if leaving a couple hours later?) I link my first trip (Frankfurt to Bern) somehow to the pass and get a QR code immediately (PLEASE tell me if that’s not right)! Walk to the train. IF there’s no wifi on the train (I won’t have a SIM card yet) I can still show the QR code (as a screen shot?)THANKS for any more help :) PS it seems like it would be much easier to have a paper pass!
