Is the rest of the trip going fine ? Yes, the trip so far has been wonderful. All thanks to this helpful community, the 'transport' aspect of the trip have remained outstanding. Have met a few friends who have been living in Europe for decades and even they have a lesser knowledge of trains overall then me 😊I might skip Locarno, as just want to spend 2-3 hours around Lake Como only. About my question above, I still need a bit of guidance regarding:- Good train 'stops' around Lake Como, where I can stop for a while (I noticed, there are certain stations on the Eastern side of the lake & I guess none on the Western)?- I am a bit short on time, so I guess I won't be able to take the ferry & would like to briefly visit a few towns around. Is there a bus service around for that?- Any suggestions for good towns around?

Thanks.My plan is a bit changed and I would be first travelling towards Lake Como from Munich, before finally moving towards Milan. In this route, I am finding a train, which is not asking me for any 'mandatory' reservations. Though it includes an inter-country EC train. - So what you say about this route?- Is there any leg of this route, where you suggest I get reservation?- Any better route you suggest?- Is there any 'free' bus/ferry, that I can get near Lake Como?

Great.So say for example, the train from Hamburg hbf to Hoeje Taasrup - 23:56 to 06:49, gets delayed by 10 minutes and starts it's journey at 00:06. So in this case, I will need to utilize my Eurail Pass's 1 additional day?

Bolzona isn’t very big (platform-wise). 6 minutes will do. Don’t worry about that, if you miss it. There’s always another train later. Yeah I know there will be trains after that. However, I am buying the reservation from Innsbruck to Munchen after this. And if I miss this Bolzana- Brennero train, I will also miss the above reservation from Innsbruck to Munchen.

Then regional trains to Innsbruck and from there the EC : 3€ optional reservation, very recommended → otherwise you’ll surely stand. You mean, I take a (free) regional train from Bolzano to Innsbruck.And from Innsbruck to Munich train (3 euro optional Reservation)? Can you confirm, how to get the optional reservation? Just simply buy a ticket from oebb.at of Innsbruck to Munich route?

You are right, it's Golden Pass Express.As per my knowledge, reservation was compulsory on special trains like Golden Pass?? However, you are saying that I can simply go and show them my Eurail Pass, with no need of a paid reservation??

Thank you so much! Yes the direct EC to Italy requires a 10€ seat reservation but it can be avoided by taking a regional train from either Lugano (not longer at all) or Domodossola (a bit longer). The route via Domodossola isn't shown on Rail Planner due to a bug but SBB will give you the correct times. But please go to Chur and then Rome, you'll save a lot of time. While selecting the route from Lugano, it gives a default route from Geneva-Zurich-Lugano. I was just wondering:If I can find an alternate (direct) route from Geneva-Lugano (from the South) without going to Zurich? If I follow the route from Zurich-Lugano, is it possible to (almost) follow the route of Bernina Express in regional trains? Is there a way to select a route on regional trains, that passes by Lake Como & Varenna?

You can't travel on the Glacier Express without paying the 49 CHF, however you can take the hourly regional trains on the same route for free. Actually they're even better as they're less crowded and have pull-down windows :) Bernina Express : there are reservation-free carriages at the front or hourly regional trains. Here is a suggestion which includes visiting most of the country. Please don't travel 10h every day, you won't enjoy it. DAY 1 (or 2 or 3, no order) - Geneva - Montreux - Zweisimmen - Spiez - Interlaken Ost - boat to Brienz - train to Lucerne and then back to Geneva (direct or via Olten) You'll get a very good overview of the Interlaken area whilst not spending a lot of money (Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen are not included on Eurail, only 25% discount). DAY 2 - Geneva - Zurich - Rhine Falls & Stein am Rhein (maybe) DAY 3 - Chamonix round-trip as explained above (a bit less travel time than usual) DAY 4 (full Glacier Express route) - Geneva - Brig - Andermatt - Dise

So day trips to take the Glacier Express or Bernina Express are impossible. But don't worry there are other very scenic journeys ! (Btw the Glacier Express require a 49 CHF seat reservation and Bernina Express 26 CHF but there are hourly reservation-free regional trains on the same route). What is your entry and exit point ? If you're coming from Lake Como for example, you could take the Bernina route along the way. Day trip ideas : Option 1 : - Geneva - Montreux - Zweisimmen - Spiez - Interlaken (Golden Pass route) - boat on either Lake Thun or Brienz (included) - back via Bern (faster) Option 2 : - Geneva - Lucerne - Lucerne - Interlaken Ost - Interlaken Ost - Bern - Bern - Geneva Option 3 : - Zermatt (but train to Gornergrat is not included, 126 CHF for adults, 30 CHF for children) Option 4 : - Leysin, Les Diablerets or St-Cergue - La Cure : scenic routes, not too far away… Option 5 : boats on Lake Geneva (50% discount) Unfortunately Geneva is pretty much the worst place to exp

Like: Geneva - Rome : Bernina is impossible to do but there are other scenic options. Here would be one : - IC5 Geneva - Olten 06:15 - 08:18 - IR26 Olten - Locarno (over the Old Gotthard Railway) 08:30 - 12:25 - spend 2-3h there as a break - RE Locarno - Milano Centrale 15:25 - 17:17 - FR Milano Centrale - Roma Termini 17:35 - 20:34 13€ (impossible to avoid) This is an example as all trains run hourly. Or another one (I'd choose this one) : - IR90 Geneva - Brig 08:10 - 10:32 - IR Brig - Domodossola 10:44 - 11:12 - PE Domodossola - Locarno 11:25 - 13:17 (Centovalli scenic railway), 1.50€ surcharge -> you pay on the train And just for the sake of repetition (apologies), which would be the best website to purchase the required reservations for FR Milano Centrale - Roma Termini 17:35 - 20:34 13€ and FA Firenze S.M.N - Bolzano/Bozen

Thank you.Can you please comment on this Train (IC 399) from Copenhagen to Hamburg?It leaves from Copenhagen at 2348 hrs & arrives at Hamburg at 0626 hrs. It's for 292 CZK. From Hamburg, I will take a train to Munich. The advantage is, that my whole day won’t be wasted on travel & would have half day of 5th July with me as well.
