Are there transfers like trains or trams, from Prague city centre (Prague Hlavni Nadrazi) to the airport and does this need to be pre booked?

There are nether trains nor trams from Prague airport to the city, but there are busses. The cheapest, which I usually use, is a local bus to the nearest metro station. Both local busses and the metro run frequently apart from in the middle of the night.

There are several more expensive options available.

Could you tell me which bus you use/how to find out the times it runs please. I want the bus from the city centre to the airport so would I still need a metro?

It´s all there (The link posted by @AnnaB )  :) You just have to click either on Public Bus then it shows the lines with timetables or on trains and it shows the “Airport Express Bus” to Prague Mainstation

Otherwise to find out which bus you need you may use google maps and select Airport to your Destination in the city and it will show the most convienient route.

On such vague question we can just provide general answers.

IF you are >65, transport is free on DPP-even for those non-EU nationals as for now, as long as that lasts. From 60-64 you can use half fare =child tickets. When there is the very odd check: show ID/passpt.

Most expens and quickest is the direct half hourly bus to Main station.

A change ticket valid 90 mins covers the whole trip bus+metro-dozens of machines with ample instructions all over airpt. Just follow crowd. IF you stay longer in Prahy and use more trams and no free travel: buy ticket for 24/48/72 etc hrs for unlimited travel-stamp only 1st time-after that no more.
