Hi there community

I would like to ask what is the best way to book train reserve seats

1) Will mobile ticket code or qr code work when presenting it at the gate before entering the train for the following  Portugal, Spain, Switzerland France and Italy

2) I see that train inspector may require me to present the ticket physically on the countries above what should I do to show that I am a passenger

3) what can I do if the train station in the database is not available to book what is the best way to get tickets there

Thanking you kindly 😊

Here is some useful information from the experienced travellers in the Community regarding both planning, reservations and activation of pass and travel days.

 Planning

The rail planner is normally not up to date, as it only is updated once a month, so to be sure of the time table you better check the timetable and availability on the websites of the national railways. The bigger national railways, like DB (Germany) SBB (Switzerland) and ÖBB (Austria) cover several countries.

 Reservations

The advice from the experienced travellers in the community is to use other ways to make reservations than the Interrail/Eurail website.  You can look at the guide in the link:

https://community.eurail.com/train-connections-reservations-47/how-to-get-reservations-105

If you, after having looked at the guide, have questions about how to make specific reservation, please give your travel details (departure date, time and route) preferably in a new topic, and you will get advice.

Please note that Interrail/Eurail charges an extra fee of 2 EUR per person and train in addition to the fee for the seat reservation.

 Activation of pass

During the activation process, when you choose the start day of the validity of the pass, the first day of the validity period is automatically made a travel day, even if you don't enter a journey, the advice is therefore not to activate the pass before the first travel day as you only can deactivate the pass before 00.00 on the day the validity starts. If your travel plans change in the last moment you will loose travel days if you have activated the pass in advance.

It can be wise to make a test and activate the pass with a start date well in the future and then deactivate the pass immediately, just to see that everything works.

 Activation of travel day

The advice from the experienced travellers in the community is also never to activate a travel day, that is connect a journey to your pass and create the ticket (QR code), until just before boarding the train, otherwise you might loose a travel day if your travel plans change in a late stage  You can't delete a travel day in the past. A travel day can only be deleted until 23.59 CET the day before the travel day

Selamat malam, mas.

@1. NOT via app-in principle best via site of railway concerned-if needed at all (it is often very well possible to use other maybe slower trains=kereta api biasa. that do not need any RES.

Newbes always get welcome from anna B dari Svenska-she will give more tips and also link to large overveiw on howtodo by yourself-is also cheaper and often easier, as then you mostly get online.

@2. Swiss has no gates at all.  This is not KTMB. IN FR, IT only a very few major stations have access gates-these work sometimes via daily QR code on mobile for pass, sometimes with the other special code for the RES for that train on that day. There will nearly always also be a manned gate.

Maaf, but ESpana is really the worst for passholders-mainly becse nearly all trains must be RES and this is only possible when there at counter=kaunter. Many people tell to forget it or book normal tickets and not use pass-depending on what type of pass and how much extra to pay, this may sometimes even be cheaper too. All those stesyens have gates-open with code on RES-or use manual.

Both ES and PT also have gates for local trains around big cities-you have to go to kaunter to ask to open them by showing valid pass.

@3. this pass IS your tiket. Most stesyens, mostly those the tipical orang turis wants, are in the system, if not can always add any other stesyen manually.

Selamat jalan, lah!

Other than a very few stations, none of them main stations you will be able to use auto gates with either the daily QR code in the app or the code in the separate reservation. If you cannot operate the gate there will either be a real person or a call button to let you through.

As for train inspections your global pass QR code or the text beneath it is all they need, as long as you have added the train to the pass. This is listed below the QR code. If reservations are mandatory you may need to show those as well.
