I want to book tickets from Vienna to Hallstatt on December 26 and then from Hallstatt to Salzburg the next day. I know the details won’t be available yet as it’s still several months away but do trains actually run on Boxing Day?

You will need to wait for the timetables to be sure, but in the UK for example, there will be very limited (if any) trains on Boxing Day.

Hi, in mainland Europe we don’t have like in UK boxing day with limited trains/services.

On public holidays trains run like on Sundays.

Not always quite so- but to the other surprise-other countries, other customs, in here it is not so much 26 but rather 24 !!=Xmas EVE=Heiligabend that is the main no-trains time-not complete, but very, very few. Also all shops close early that day and many HTL etc will not take guests then.

Bu f.e. in NL 31/12= Old Year is when no trains run after 20.00-the mayhem and war-like firing of the heaviest not allowed fireworks make it an extremely unsafe time for anyone except brash puber-age teeners.

@angelo: boxing day=2nd Xmas, 26, then a limited service runs in GB. NO trains-and about anything closed, also hardly any bus or tram etc-on 25, the main Xmas day there.
