Dear Hive Mind,

We had Eurail tickets booked from Bologna to Munich (3rd July) on FR 8502, but this train is now not running because of the closure of the line from Bologna to Padua.

We then tried to book from Bologna to Munich on RJ 88 via Verona and Trento but for some reason the Eurail site is not allowing this booking to proceed. It currently says ‘there’s a technical error on our end and please check later’. Any solutions please? Thank you.

FR 8502 does not run to Munich, but normally only to Bozen. It is still running on 3/7, but now only to Trento. I'm not sure though why you'd book FR 8502 for a journey to Munich, since you'd then take RJ 86 from Bozen, but you could also take that train directly from Bologna. RJ 86 doesn't seem to run on 3/7.

In any case, since your original journey is not possible anymore, you're entitled to a full refund, including any booking fees. If you booked the reservation(s) through Eurail, you can request this via customer service:

https://eurail.zendesk.com/hc/en-001/requests/new

As to booking RJ 88: I can get to the payment page. At which exact step do you see the error message?

You could also ask customer service to rebook you.

Thank you - the technical error arrives AFTER we get to the payment page and press the ‘pay’ button. It says ‘try again later’. I will try and contact customer service to book us - do we do that through Eurail or on the Italian/german site? Thank you.

There is also a message that comes up that says, ‘you need a supplement to board this train’. The train is included in your Pass but also requires a supplement. You an buy it online, at the station, or on board the train. What does this mean please?

If you book a reservation for this train through Eurail, then the supplement is already included.

As to requesting a refund and rebooking: you need to do that where you booked the reservation, for which I posted the URL. Since you are now trying to book via Eurail, I assumed you also booked your original reservations there.

There are works on the line between Verona and Bologna and the trains between 8am and 12am are cancelled or do another route (+1 h).

Best you can do if you want to take RJ86 is to take the regional train from Bologna to Verona at 08:10 and than have a layover in Verona for rj86 of more than one hour.

Or you take rj88 at 7:45 from Bologna direct to Munich.

The next direct train rj82 is at 13:52 from Bologna to Munich.

Thank you all. I think there is a problem with either our browser or our internet routing. I have booked RJ88 direct with OBB on 03 July. Much appreciated. Alison
