The TGV from Zürich to Paris takes a bit more than 4 hours so you can leave Zürich in the morning and be in Paris around lunch, and the return in the evening. The seat reservation fee is expensive and there is a limited number of pass holder seats on the international TGVs so you need to make seat reservations well in advance.
