Manually added journeys are sometimes not shown on the rail planner app, Google maps or ViaMichelin doesn't draw rail itineraries: Does anybody know about an app where I can draw my finished journey in order to screen-copy it e.g. in  foto book? I couldn't find unfortunately.

I know his thread is a bit old but others may find it as I did a week or two ago when I was trying to do the same thing. I see openrailwaymap got mentioned, which is an amazing resource, but you can’t draw onto it. However there is a tool that uses the ORM API and allows you to add and export routes, https://signal.eu.org/osm/

I’ve just used this to create maps for the online diary I’ve been keeping of my ongoing Interrail adventure, and have written up the instructions of how I did it in a lot more detail at  https://travels.bream.org/about-this-site/

Hopefully someone will find it useful :)

Nice maps and photos Steve :)

Thanks for that.  I’ve been looking for something like this for ages.  I investigated openrailway for a bit but couldn’t find a way.

Next up - does anyone have an app/thing for emulating the flipping and clattering arrivals & destination boards on a website?

Try Google maps directions. It allows you to add your destinations in turn.

May not follow rail routes but will show a coloured line  and can be screen printed.

Besides google-maps there is openstreetmap.org, set up all by volunteers. It also has openrailwaymaps, but I think it is not complete for all countries. I have no idea what you can do with it. There are some specialised railway-fans forums (many in german in fact) that know all about such things, like drehscheibe-online.

Unfortunately, the Rail Planner app is not capable of processing manually added journeys and adding them to your map and statistics. As other members have pointed out you should be able to do this yourself with Google Maps or an equivalent ;)

Thanks for your suggestions. At least good to know that there are in fact no really sufficently satifying solutions. Apart from printing a map from openrailwaymaps, drawing the itinerary by hand and scanning it Google maps seems to be the only - not too good - alternative: applicable stops are limited and sometimes the mandatory car route prohibits a correct outining of the rail journey (e.g. with Flåmsbana from Myrdal to Flåm, because there is just no road).
It would be fine if the railplanner app could also show the manually integrated journeys on its map - the places are always chosen from the integrated scrolldown menu, so it shouldn’t face a to big IT-problem.
