Hi

I have never bought an interrail pass before, and before I do I want to ask, can I travel out from London to Europe? We are looking at starting and ending our trip in London, and travelling to Austria with stops mid journey there and back, in August.

I checked the journey planner on the web site and it only gives me the option to travel to other places in the UK if I start in London. I don’t know whether I need a different kind of ticket to travel from London to European countries, so want to make sure I’m doing the right thing before I buy a very expensive ticket!

Thanks

Sian

just be sure to choose "London" rather than a specific London station.

Not a Eurail pass, but an Interrail pass if you live in the UK.

Well spotted! Edited.

You’ll need a Eurail Global Pass to cover UK to Austria.

You’ll need an Interrail Global Pass to cover UK to Austria. It covers pretty much all trains in Europe.

There’s a really good write up of how the pass works here: https://www.seat61.com/how-to-use-an-interrail-pass.htm

I would use this page as a guide to some of the routes you can take, but you don’t have to stick to these specific routes. https://www.seat61.com/Austria.htm

Bear in mind that there are reservation costs to use the Eurostar, and any TGVs in or from France. And sleeper trains. If you go via Brussels and Germany, the reservation costs tend to be much lower.

Again, a good guide to reservation costs here: https://www.seat61.com/interrail-and-eurail-reservations.htm
