I am traveling with my family to Italy with Interrail passes on the 24th of May this year. One of our legs is the high speed ICE train from Hamburg Hbf to Munich Hbf. Unlike the other legs on our journey, this one has worried me a lot. Partly because of the track work happening between Göttingen and Kassel, but also the allegedly alarming rates of delay this particular route, somtimes up to over 100 minutes. It is also an overnight train. We have another train to catch in Munich, going to Venice, but if the high speed train arrives on time, we have 90 minutes to spare before the next connection.Has someone had any experience with this route before and if yes, should I be concerned about this?
A first timer here on using Interrail passes. I will be using a first class pass. I am going to travel from Hamburg to Venice with my family and we will use the Brenner route, traveling from Munich. I read that there was a supplement fee that you had to pay if you entered Italy from Austria. I bought my tickets through the ÖBB website, but I mistakenly booked them using the “Seat reservation only” option. I can’t get my tickets refunded, and I am worried that the ticket could be refused.I was wondering if it was possible to pay the supplement fee by local means instead. Can you speak to a staff member in Munich or on the train if you want to pay it there? If so how do we do this?
