Hi everyone,

I want to get from Paris to Siena in August, and back again. Which route would you go? I’ve been looking into various options but because of the landslide etc it all seems a bit complicated, and I’m struggling to find the simplest route. I’m happy to stop 1 or 2 nights on the way so would also like to take into consideration which cities would be nicest to stay in.

I’m currently thinking Paris - Basel - Milan - Siena?

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks, Helen :-)

It depends on what you are most interested in.

Certainly via Switzerland has the most opportunities for some of the most scenic railways although these wouldn’t be the fastest routes.

You could go via the south of France, Marseille, Nice, Genoa.

The direct route to Milan still runs with one daily connection from SNCF, this includes a bus transfer around the closed section.
