Train travel in Greece?

Hello guys,

I am currently on my interrail trip in Italy and planning to go to Greece, but we all know of the terrible train accident that happened there a couple of days ago, and the railway strikes that followed afterwards.

Now I'm doubting if it's smart to go to Greece at all. I can't find much about it on Internet. Is it sensible to go there with Interrail? What are the chances of a new strike (or even a new accident?)? Is it even possible to travel from Athens to the north again by train?

Thanks in advance!

Very sad to see the accident, yes. I wouldn’t plan on trying to get between Athens and Thessaloniki, but I guess other lines will be OK soon when the strikes are over.

You can also get to Greece via Italy’s Adriatic coast then ferry. The pass gives you a (slight) discount on the ferry.
