Thank you most kindly for the perspective. It all fits, now.
It's most odd, the interrail app says either pass travel not available, buy full fare… or unavailable. The DB site also says it's not possible, and now we're a month out. So yes, I could wait in a queue on the 12th at the Hauptbanhof to get the reservations in person. I cannot do it in person earlier, because I will only arrive in Berlin that same morning. So… lots of good facts, but, what do I do? Thanks !
EC/EIC 49 is operated in Germany by DB and in Poland by PKP. An international reservation for this train is best bought at a ticket office, such as the DB ticket office in Berlin. There is no PKP ticket office there. A one country pass for Poland is only valid from the border tariff point. You'll need an extra ticket to the border if you start from Berlin, but a saver ticket to the first station in Poland will probably be cheaper. Compare what prices DB and PKP offer. AFAIK PKP is often cheaper. That ticket will already come with a reservation. You can book a domestic reservation from Rzepin on the PKP Intercity website. Thank you most kindly. On comparing prices, a 3 day Interrail pass was cheaper than round trip Berlin Warszawa, so I just bought the 3 day pass, and will ask the DB counter to sort out the rest.Sent a note to DB customer service, who responded that it was a bit early to try and place reservations for June. It would be nice to know how early is possible. Will post a
Hi Rvdborgt, and sorry for the rant about our rail management. It's heaven compared to the country that I emigrated from. This happened with a paper pass. And when was it? This week, this month, longer ago? Hi rvdborgt, it was Monday 26th September 2022.I had left NL a few weeks prior, and the paper pass code worked in Utrecht to enter the station. Utrecht leaving the station on the 26th was where it did not work on my return home.
Hi Rvdborgt, and sorry for the rant about our rail management. It's heaven compared to the country that I emigrated from. This happened with a paper pass. I am reluctant to use an electronic pass; not due to age and stubbornness, but trying to keep things simple. I feel a bit sorry for the tourists trying to pass a gate with a mobile app. They have the app at the ready, but then just as they're about to pass the gate, their screen goes dark, and they are frantically trying to enter a password and dig into the app again. Whilst the people behind them grow annoyed. I have read this, and then had the experience with a global pass, leaving from Haarlem and then returning to the country… and the gates wouldn't let us out on the trip home. Was this with a paper pass or a mobile pass? In case of a paper pass: when was it? NS claim it should work for the whole validity period but you're certainly not the first one with this problem: https://community.ns.nl/internationaal-reizen-37/
@nellieb1yIf you plan to travel to Ukraine you should check if your insurance allows that. Many countries advise against travelling to the Ukraine due to the ongoing war and if your home country does that, normally your travel insurance will not be valid in that country. I have never used travel insurance. However, previous visits to Ukraine (please say Ukraine, as there is no "the Ukraine”) have involved me purchasing health insurance for the duration of my stay. That was long ago, so I shall check with my Dutch insurer with regard to my policy. Thanks, Anna, for that tip !
Folks, Any update on the above situation? Covid's done, more or less. I ran a search on PKP and saw that there's a train from Warszawa; but with my fledgeling Polish I also note:Z: PRZEMYŚL GŁÓWNY - ODJAZD: 13:45 DO: LVIV - PRZYJAZD: 18:25That's nearly 5 hours; I appreciate the sizes of the two countries, and know current events; however the bus trip between those two points is a tad over 3 hours, which leads me to suspect that there's a shuttle or walk-across the border, not a direct train connection. Anyone with recent experience able to share? Thank you most kindlyKarla in Haarlem
The QR Code for Netherlands on the paperpasses covers was a 3months QR Code (longest validity of Interrailpasses) within these 3 months you could enter dutch stations as much you like. :) even if you had pass with shorter validity Folks, I have read this, and then had the experience with a global pass, leaving from Haarlem and then returning to the country… and the gates wouldn't let us out on the trip home. One of the station cleaners eventually let us out (there is a help button at some station gates that leads to a call centre recording and you get placed on hold indefinitely).Seewulf's advice is to the point, technically correct, but Dutch IT (I work there) is "houtje-touwtje” made cheaply of baling wire & duct tape, more short term fixes than a NYC street, and seldom works as required. Living there AND working in IT, one learns to survive. So, it's often, cleaners are the remaining humans who know what's what in Dutch stations, in which hooligans get away with pushing thro
