Hi,

Me and my partner planned to travel from Riccione to Frankfurt on 7th of April.

It seems that all EC from Milano to Basel are sold out.

Is this correct? Do you know smart alternatives?

6th april would be suitable too

Thanks in advance

Booking isn't open yet, likely due to the current engineering works between Milan and Domodossola (the line will be closed for 3 months this summer).

I'd suggest waiting a few weeks, you can already book the Frecciarossa out of Riccione if you wish.

The easy reservation-free alternative is as follows:

- hourly RE Milano Centrale - Lugano, departure xx:43

- any train towards Basel/Zurich

The Gotthard Base Tunnel is mostly closed so trains take the old scenic route (1h longer than usual). On Sunday afternoons northbound trains take the base tunnel. It could look like this :

- FR Riccione - Milano Centrale 08:04 - 10:54

- RE Milano Centrale - Lugano 11:43 - 12:58

- IC21 Lugano - Basel SBB 13:02 - 16:56

- ICE Basel SBB - Frankfurt (Main) Hbf 17:07 - 19:52

One example between many. The Lötschberg route (direct ECs) would be an hour faster.

Thank you so much!!

Do you need/ have to go through Switzerland?

You can also head straight to Germany from Italy.

You simply have to reserve a seat on a train from Riccione to Bogota.

Once you're in Bogota, you can easily hop on the train to Munich - Reserving a seat on the EuroCity EC is not mandatory. The same rule applies in Germany—it's also just an option.

I hope that during these days there will be no strikes or delays in Germany. Good luck!
