I’m interrailing to Kolari / Äkäslompolo / Ylläs via Stockholm and noticed the Helsinki to Kolari night train would take me a day longer than if I were to travel through Sweden. (Also, in December, the Helsinki to Kolari “Santa Claus Express” is often fully booked.)
Therefore, from Stockholm, I’m taking the overnight train to Gällivare (direction of Narvik). From there, thanks to the suggestions in this post, a bus to Pajala, near the Finish border, where a taxi takes me to Kolari / Äkäslompolo / Ylläs (as there are no trains/busses to get me closer, at least not on a Sunday).
On the small chance any one else needs an alternative way to travel to northern Finland, this might be an idea. Also, you can share a taxi with me from Pajala on Sunday, December 8, 16:15.
