I was planning to purchase a Eurail pass for travel both around the UK and on the Eurostar from London to Paris on Sunday August 29 for myself and two teenage children.

How do I find out if there are any reservations available on that day before I buy a pass?

If there are no reservations available, I will buy a Britrail pass instead.

As you know there is a limited number of pass holder seats on the Eurostar and on popular departures and during high season those sell out weeks, and sometimes months in advance.

The best place to see the availability of passholder seats on the Eurostar is

https://www.b-europe.com/EN/Booking/Pass#TravelWish

Press "later trains" and eventually you will find the next available connection.

If you have a mobile pass you need to generate a Pass Cover Number in order to make the reservation at b-europe. You do that here in the PCN generator:

https://community.eurail.com/news-and-announcements-39/pass-cover-number-generator-is-live-5653

A quick check on the Interrail reservation tool shows several trains in the afternoon with First Class seats (standard premier) at £40 pp. There would seem to be no IR second class seats.

The date you are looking at is a national holiday.

Thanks for the help! All booked!

Dear AnnaB,

your precise directions on how to secure a Eurostar train reservation and how to generate a pass cover number were incredibly helpful and saved us a lot of stress! Thank you so much for these hints.
