Hi. I have to take the train from Cologne to Paris on the 9th of August. The friend I travel with managed to reserve a seat, but when I tried to it didn't let me because it said there were no reservations available. What can I do? Can I get on the train anyway if I add it to my pass, but don't have the reservation?

Hi @Laura di Caporiacco if you’re travelling on the Thalys from Cologne to Paris or the Deutsche Bahn ICE to Paris (via one of the other stations in Germany), then I’m afraid a reservation is compulsory:

You could try going to a station in Germany and seeing if they can get you a seat reservation, or you could try another route like going to Brussels, Strasbourg or Basel first?

More likely is that this train is CANcelled-TLs has cancelled-due to both staff shortage and shortage of parts for repairs of many of its trains. You had better look into ALternatives for both of you.

The best I can see is likely normal trains along Rhine and Moselle to Trier-LUXembourg, then a FRench TGV from there.

Don’t get on the train without a reservation you will only get fined and put off at the next stop, where ever it is.

Looking right now the 9:07 Via Köln Messe/Deutz - Köln Messe/Deutz Gl.11-12 - Karlsruhe Hbf seems to still have a space available.
