Hi, I am looking into the trainride from Hamburg (Germany) to Hirtshals (Denmark) and on the app it says that seat reservations are required, but when I have to pay it says it is optional? On the website it also says that it is not required.. Can I hop on the train without a reservation? Thanks in advance!

Which exact trains on which date?

I was looking into this option:

https://www.interrail.eu/nl/plan-your-trip/interrail-timetable?ol=HAMBURG+%28GERMANY%29&ov=008002710&dl=HIRTSHALS+%28DENMARK%29&dv=008601803&vl=&vv=&t=1644908400000&ar=false&rt=&tt=&mc=&mct=0

I want to be in Hirtshals around 18:00, because I will take the ferry to Stavanger by 20:00.

The IC trains from Denmark to Germany are in summerseason reservation compulsory (in off season like yet not) How ever the operating Railcompanies DB(German Rail) & DSB(Danish Rail) still suggest to reserve the trains 🙂 but it´s optional 🙂 You can reserve direclty with DSB via B-Europe 🙂 means no service fee like on Interrrail. https://travel.b-europe.com/dsb-rail/en/reservation-only#TravelWish

For a while, but I think it has again finished, due to covid-distancing ALL IC trains/seats INside DK had to be reserved, this was free when done in danish on dsb.dk. I had he same situation last autumn. IF still so, simply reserve Padborg-Aalborg. From there there is also for coming period BUS replacement on the far north line by Nordjyske Transport. Use DSB travelpalnner for best actual situation. Do NOT use the planner of EU/IR!!!!
