Im trying to book a journey from Split to Rijeka   when I go to seat reservations it says the journey is nearly 20hours via Zagreb and Slovenia.   yet when I look on rome2rio site it says just just 4hours 32min.  is there not a direct train to Rijeka?

There’s one connection per day according to HZPP:

Departing Rijeka 13.58, arriving 21.30 in Split
You have to change the train in Oštarije - arriving there at 16.24, departing at 16.45. For the train from Oštarije to Split you’ll need a reservation!

Edit: ah sorry, you wanna go from Split to Rijeka. There the connection seems to be indeed shitty. Best check for your date on hzpp.hr

Though I think even the direct bus (assuming there are any left-as it is 2 countries now) cannot do it in that time-not even when there were no borders to hold it up.

Take those other sites
