I will be traveling in the next weeks in Austria (I am from Canada, dont realy know how trains work). I want to know if I need to book train tickets right now or just a few days before travelling is ok. Also do I need to reserve seats ? I find information online that it should not be required but it is all pre-covid and I want to make sure it’s still valid.

I will be doing Wien to Schladming 13 of July, Schladming to Innsbruck 16 of july and Innsbruck to Langem am Arlberg 18 of july.

Thanks !

Seat reservation: not required but depending on class and time it might be a good idea.

Can be done here:     https://tickets.oebb.at/en/ticket?cref=oebb-allgemein

(3€ per person; connecting trains for free).

If you have no rail pass (?) it's cheaper to buy early (seat reservation can be made when buying a ticket).

If you have a fixed schedule, then you can book journeys on the ÖBB website. The earlier you book, the cheaper journeys can be. The cheapest tickets often cannot be changed or refunded. Seat reservations are optional and can be booked for 3€ per seat.

You can compare the price of these 3 journeys with a 3 days/month pass for Austria.

Is that new, connecting trains for free with ÖBB?

No, it hasn't changed.
