I would like to book the Napoles - Catania (Italy) night train. If I am not logged in, the interrail page shows a reservation fee of 3€ for the normal seat, if I log in to make the reservation, the price change to 97 € per person, thats even more than the normal ticket price from TrenItalia (79 €).
How can I book a normal 2nd class seat for € 3? Is it better to make a reservation in the office on site?
Thanks
Ellen

Hi Ellen, I've replied to your private message. As rvdborgt mentioned, you can find the refund conditions in your confirmation email. You can request a refund in your account, as explained here. Cheers,
under these conditions (TrenItalia is cheaper than Interrail) I can easily cancel the ticket, right?
That is irrelevant. Please check the confirmation email for the refund conditions.
Hello Nanja,

Thank you very much for the many answers, I have recalculated my itinerary (Venice-Florence-Rome-Naples-Catania) with TrenItalia and it is cheaper to buy the tickets directly from TrenItalia. We are 2 adults and 3 children, at TrenItalia there is a cheap group rate and in total it is cheaper than Interrail+Reservation Fee.
Hi rvdborgt, I have passed it on to our reservation specialist for it to be checked and changed accordingly. Thanks for flagging!
Addition 07/01/2022: there is unfortunately nothing we can do to adjust it. When a user is logged in, the system doesn't know what kind of Pass they have, so it retrieves only the indication prices (general reservation prices for Global Passes) based on the train type and countries combination. In this case it is Italy to Italy, train type: INI.
It very well could be, that this specific night train on route Napoli- Catania doesn't offer seats, but other night trains in Italy with train type: INI do (see example below). The indication prices are very generic and we cannot make it specific for every train. It's just technically not possible in our system.
I hope this makes it more clear and sorry I cannot help more. Cheers,
Hi, Ellen
There are night ferries between Naples and Palermo. We paid 110 euros, for two people, with own double cabin, own bathroom. I think the price was ok.
PLUS that its impossible since some time to make online REServations for TrenItalia. It may well be that you were shown the actual full- fare price. You have to go to the counters and a seat for IC trains cost ineed 3 eur extra there
It is quite possible to make reservations for Trenitalia on the Interrail website, which was what the threadstarter wanted to do.
However, it appears that the planner app shows “from €3” (I checked) for the night train to Catania, which is incorrect since this train does not have seating coaches. @Nanja, I suppose this can be corrected.

The DB planner confirms it's a train with only couchettes and sleeper coaches.
And it is true that the lowest available normal tickets for an Italian sleeper can be cheaper than an Interrail reservation. In that case, it's not worth to use a travel day of course.
Hey Ellen
As far as I know, the nighttrains IntercityNotte to Sicily haven't seats, only couchette or sleeping cars. It is also so expansive, because in Italy you have to book the whole compartment due to covid :/
