hello! what could be the best possible route so the travel time is much shorter? was hoping for longer train rides for lesser stops and transfers.

It's not the most straightforward route. Not possible in a day unless you take a 5am Flixbus.

I'd spend the night in Marseille. Itinerary example:

Day 1:

- IC Milano Centrale - Ventimiglia 09:10 - 13:02 3€

- TER Ventimiglia - Nice-Ville 13:17 - 14:11 or 13:47 - 14:41

- TER Nice-Ville - Marseille St-Charles 15:25 - 18:08

Day 2:

- AVE Marseille St-Charles - Barcelona-Sants 08:04 - 12:38 10 or 20€ -> reservation only possible on the day on the platform or at Spanish ticket counters

Availability should be fine, staff look for free seats for you. Worst case there are regional trains all the way.
