I am traveling with two teenagers. They have their phone, but is it convenient for me to have the passes on mine or do they each have their pass on their own App?

It’s better that everyone has it on their own phone (for ticket gates, inspections,...) Just make sure that they register each train.
And should anyone lose his/her phone, you can still show it on another phone with a repair code.
