If reservations are mandatory for the train, then the conductor will most likely ask to see the reservation.
If reservations are optional, then you need the reservations to show if someone else is sitting on your seat. The conductor will most likely not ask for the reservation.

On some routes, reservations are compulsory even with an Interrail pass, so you need both the pass and reservation ticket to board the train.
