Timetables will be on DB as soon as they are loaded on the database by the companies. However you can't book reservations there. Either you make them on eurail.com (2€ fee per person per train) or through the railway company whenever possible -> have a look at https://www.seat61.com/interrail-and-eurail-reservations.htm

When would you like to travel ? Most timetables for this summer have not been published yet.

You've got 3 main routes from Madrid (although those night trains aren't daily year-round!) :

Option 1 :

- fast train Madrid - San Sebastian

- Euskotren San Sebastian - Hendaye (3-4€, not included)

- night train Hendaye - Paris

Option 2 :

- AVE Madrid - Barcelona

- Cercanias Barcelona - Latour

- night train Latour - Paris

Option 3 :

- AVE Madrid - Barcelona/Girona

- Cercanias Barcelona/Girona - Cerbère

- night train Cerbère - Paris

Have a look at this too : https://www.seat61.com/international-trains/trains-from-Madrid.htm#Spain-Paris (the Hendaye sleeper is missing but it doesn't run daily/outside summer)

Vou olhar detalhadamente o que me escreveu acima. Agradecida!

Qualquer coisa volto aqui.

Please specify which train you want to book: route, date, departure time.

What the rail planner app is showing is not relevant since it's incomplete and unreliable.

Which one? @thibcabe proposed 3.

All 3 night trains proposed cost €20 per person for a couchette, which is actually quite cheap for a couchette. On top of that, there wil be a reservation fee to get to the departure station of the night train (€6.50 or €10 per person depending on route).

That depends on what other journeys you'll be making with the pass. You can use e.g. www.raileurope.com to compare prices with and without a pass.

@rvdborgt obrigada.

Entretanto, vou utilizar 2 dias do meu passe global :(

Madrid - Hendaye 17:38 as 00:00hs

Hendaye - Paris 04:48 as 09:54, exatamente.

Quero pagar esses percursos da nossa família

You cannot book reservations in the app. Please look here where to book reservations:

https://www.seat61.com/interrail-and-eurail-reservations.htm

You can also take a seat on the night trains mentioned. That would be €10 per person. I'd rather do that than wait in a station in the middle of the night. That would also cost only 1 travel day.

In addition, it's not a good idea to activate your pass or a travel day in advance. It's not needed to book reservations.

Hendaye station is closed from 23:35 to 04:30 (info easily available online). I’d also not recommend waiting outside in January. The following day in Paris would be miserable... Please take a night train (seat or couchette) or spend the night in a hotel.

Remember that with a night train you save accommodation in a hotel so 20€ per person is good value!

Now that you added the dates I’ll try to help.

Option via Hendaye :

  • ARC Madrid-Chamartin - San Sebastian 08:43 - 13:37 1maybe on eurail.com, otherwise at RENFE counters. Cannot check right now as interrail.eu seems broken for me]
  • Euskotren across the border to Hendaye every 30 min : 3-4€, Eurail not valid → get tickets there. The Euskotren station is a 10-15 min walk.
  • TER Hendaye - Dax 17:53 - 19:13 or earlier
  • Intercités de nuit Dax - Paris-Austerlitz 20:18 - 07:17 10€ seat, 20€ couchette

Option via Latour :

  • AVE Madrid-Atocha - Barcelona-Sants 09:30 - 12:37
  • R3 Barcelona-Sants - Latour-de-Carol 14:31 - 17:51

First please have a look at :

https://www.seat61.com/how-to-use-a-eurail-pass.htm

https://www.seat61.com/interrail-and-eurail-reservations.htm

Basically high-speed trains and night trains require reservations. Some are very expensive (but tickets on those routes are too!) : cross-border trains like Eurostar, TGVs to Spain and Switzerland,... Basically trains you're likely to take…

There are a few ways to save money but it takes longer and you need to change more : a regional train across the border, etc.

I'll try to help a bit. Questions welcome.

Madrid - Paris : since you're landing at around midday it won't be possible to reach Paris using a night train. Either you take a flight (remember that cabin and hold luggage cost extra) or spend the night in Madrid before travelling the following day.

I'd choose that option because you never know what could happen when flying + you don't want to travel for multiple hours after a long flight with jetlag!

On Friday either AVE to Barcelona (10€) + TGV to Paris (35€) (-> 09:30 - 20:18) or one of these cheaper but longer options :

First my favourite :

- Madrid-Chamartin - San Sebastian 08:43 - 13:37 around 10€ âI cannot check whether this train is available on eurail.com or not]

- Euskotren San Sebastian - Hendaye 14:15 - 14:52 or 14:45 - 15:22 3-4€

- TGV Hendaye - Paris 16:11 - 20:55 10€

Option 2 (not cheaper and a bit more risky) :

- AVE Madrid-Atocha - Barcelona-Sants 08:00 - 10:30 10€

- R Barcelona-Sants - Cerbère 11:16 - 13:56

- TER Cerbère - Nîmes Pont du Gard 14:20 - 17:58

- TGV Nîmes Pont du Gard - Paris Gare de Lyon 18:13 - 21:04 10€

Paris - London : 30€ mandatory reservation. There's a passholder quota too so book as soon as possible. It's an extremely popular route. No alternatives.

If budget is limited and/or you don't want to pay 240€ (4 x 2 x 30€) in Eurostar reservations, keep London for another trip.

Paris - Interlaken :

Direct TGV high-speed trains to Switzerland cost 29€ in 2nd class but you can easily avoid them! Take any TGV to Strasbourg or Mulhouse (10€ limited fare, then 20€) and then a fast TER regional train across the border to Basel. Book the TGV in advance.

The full journey could be done reservation-free but honestly the savings aren't worth the extra travel time. For example :

- TER Paris-Est - Belfort 08:46 - 12:46 (direct to Mulhouse on weekends)

- TER Belfort - Mulhouse 13:04 - 13:39

- TER Mulhouse - Basel SBB 13:46 - 14:08 or later

- afterwards trains to Interlaken every 30 min (sometimes with an easy change in Bern or Spiez)

Fortunately Swiss trains do not require reservations. Simply log the train you'd like to take to the app before boarding and that's it. Then sit wherever you want (train ends are always less busy).

Btw boats on Lake Thun and Brienz are included but they do not run often in winter.

You also get discounts on mountain railways and cable cars like Schilthorn or Jungfraujoch (25%). The Jungfrau region is still very expensive.

Interlaken - Milan/Venice :

13€ for the cross-border EC train. Possible to take a regional train, easier via Lugano and Chiasso. Check timetables on SBB app or DB Navigator app.

If you leave early you can take a direct train from Brig to Venice so you only pay a reservation once. Otherwise change in Milan.

- ICE Interlaken Ost - Spiez 05:58 - 06:21

- IC6 Spiez - Brig 06:36 - 07:11

- EC Brig - Venezia S. Lucia 07:44 - 12:42 13€

Venice - Rome : 13€ reservation for the direct Frecciarossa train. No other good alternative, just pay the price. Trains run hourly and availability the day before isn't an issue.

Rome - Valencia :

2 full travel days by train (10h+) or ferry to Barcelona (leaves from Civitavecchia). Better to fly if you have limited time.

Valencia - Lisbon :

Very bad train connections between the 2 countries. It would require a night enroute.

Perfeito! Irei analisar ponto a ponto.

No, it won’t work I’m afraid. The only option would be :

  • AVE Madrid-Atocha - Narbonne 13:25 - 18:34

Reservations for this train are not possible online. Tickets cost 95€.

I would also advice against risking it : your flight is delayed and you miss everything. Count an hour to leave the airport and 30 min by train to Atocha station. You could go to Barcelona using an evening train (after let’s say 4-5pm) but otherwise please stay in Madrid.

If you really need to be in Paris on Friday morning there are Air Europa flights at 14:25 or 16:30 : around 400€ for 4 people. But don’t you want to visit Madrid a bit ? :)

The easiest and fastest would be the direct TGV : Barcelona-Sants 09:28 - Paris Gare de Lyon 16:12.

Reservations cost 35€ per person : use https://www.raileurope.com/ (click on add railpass, only works on computers or enable the desktop version from your phone : https://www.browserstack.com/guide/view-desktop-sites-on-android )

Would you prefer a lot longer but cheaper way ? Take regional trains via Cerbère and then a TGV from Montpellier or Nîmes. Timetables on bahn.com.

Third option :

  • AVE Barcelona-Sants - Lyon Part-Dieu 08:19 - 13:20 10€ only available at the station, plenty of seats left
  • TGV Lyon Part-Dieu - Paris Gare de Lyon 14:04 - 16:18 10€

Frankly I’d just take the direct TGV, it’s a long journey.

Quem faz a empresa SNFC.

The direct TGV is a high-speed train run by SNCF yes. Reservations for this train are available online, follow my advice above. Not possible at the station as SNCF does not have counters (and they don't cooperate with RENFE anymore).

AVE (or AVI - Alta Velocidad Internacional in this case) is a train run by RENFE. There are counters at Sants station but if you wish to take this route go early as there will probably be a queue.

Honestly I'd take the TGV - easier and more importantly available online.

E.pagar.?

You make the booking online using one of the websites I listed above (Rail Europe or Eurail. You'll receive a PDF which you show to staff onboard -> these are your seat reservations.

On top of that you need to log on Rail Planner app the train you'd like to take -> QR-code, your ticket.

How did you make it to Barcelona from Madrid ?

If you're confused about the online reservations process read these 2 links and maybe someone else in your family can help you too :
