Dear All,

I am planning to take the EC 151 from Mannheim to Milan on Monday 15th May - now the german Train association EVG has just announced strikes for all german trains from 14th to 17th May.

Do you guys Know if ECs are also affected from these strikes? Or is it german trains only?

EC 151 is a German train until it reaches Basel so it can be affected.

Check bahn.de/aktuell to see the impact of the strike. There's no info yet, but I'd expect information to be available there today or tomorrow.

Other possibility is to look on the day or the evening before if this train will run or not and then check if local trains are affected. Maybe some trains will run to get you to Basel Bad Bahnhof or Basel SBB. From there it is Swiss Railways.

Other possibility is to run to Kehl from there if the local train goes over the border to Strasbourg or from Kehl with the Tram (not included in the pass, but cheap) to Strasbourg and from there TER trains (French railways) Strasbourg-Basel. But also in France they are striking since some months, so check also if trains in France are running. From Basel Swiss railways.

Maybe you will not catch your train in Basel, but if not than go to the ticket office in Switzerland and try to get an free new reservation for the next available train to Milan. Reservation is not compulsory in Switzerland, just hop on. In Italy for the EC is the reservation compulsory. You can also avoid the reservation taking from Basel SBB the IC21 to Lugano and from there the RE to Milan. IC has optional reservations but not needed and RE is not possible to make a reservation.
