Hi All..

I am planning to take half day trip from Muenchen to Neuschwanstein Castle

but I notice it quite late, will be back to Muenchen around 4.30 PM.

is there any half day trip that offer come back to Muenchen earlier? (like 02.30 PM already back to Muenchen)

because we need to go to Zurich, we dont want to be so late.

or maybe is there other advise for halfday trip from muenchen from morning to afternoon time?

Thanks before.

Hi,

Last time I checked it was a difficult move. 2 hours of travel between Munchen and Fuessen and you still have to take a bus or walk to Neuschwanstein. You won’t have a lot of time before the way back. You can save 1 hour if you make a change in Buchloe but that means you can’t have short transfer time.

Last time I checked I delayed visiting Neuschwanstein and planned it for another travel

Hi @StanLeeG33

I suggest Nuernberg, about one hour from Muenchen with the ICE. You can also visit a castel in this city.

Hi @Quentin Vuviet ,

thanks for the advise.

I found this tour → https://bavariancastletour.com/castle-tours/skip-the-line-half-day-tour-from-munich-to-neushwanstein-castle/

it was said until 02.30 PM, but not sure if it is true.

Hi @Danhiel ,

thanks for the suggestion !

That tour seems very expensive.

Since you need to go to Zurich afterwards I would not go back to Munich. Hours lost in transit.

Take all your luggage with you (there should be lockers in Füssen, double check), visit the castle and then catch the EC in Buchloe.

You can leave München in the morning, have a 4-5 hour break in Füssen, and then arrive in Zürich in the evening. You can add a via station and the duration of the break in the DB app to find the best trains.

but the thing is .. is there any transport from Neuschwanstein Castle to nearest train station?

to fussen or to buchloe.

There’s a bus from Füssen to Hohenschwangau (probably taxis too?) and tourist shuttles from there to the castle.

It looks like there aren’t lockers at Füssen, but there are taxis.

Did this last summer, there are relatively frequent busses to the castle and back, connecting with the trains. Be aware that it’s still quite the hike uphill before you get there effectively.

There’s also some bike rental place next to the station, if you prefer that.

I thought I saw luggage lockers at the castle too then.

For the return you should change in Kaufbeuren or Buchloe to get to Switzerland via Kempten or Memmingen, Lindau and Bregenz.

Quite nice railway lines, snaking through the hills, lots of honking and tooting when travelling at the smaller railway lines there, and with nice views on the alps in the distance on a clear day. Very good railway vibes there!

Hi @BrendanDB

do you know where can i find the bus timetable?

i checked from google map, all bring me back to munich first..

do you know where can i find the bus timetable?

In Germany, the first thing to check is bahn.de. It includes almost all public transport.

For Bavaria, you can look at this website but it looks like it's in German only.
