Hi, I’m trying to book seats for a few different routes within Europe for December. I am not finding the schedule on Eurail beyond the 15th Dec., So I went onto the actual Train Operators sight to book the seats. They allow you to book seats only, but the cost is ridiculously high considering I have a first-class pass.

Question 1) Can I book seats on the actual train operators’ website?

Question 2) Can you do this (q1) using your pass

Question 3) Can you add these bookings to the eurail app?

Or do you have an alternative recommendation, we are a group of 9, so don’t want to miss out on train reservations. Thanks in advance,

It varies a lot, depending on the operator. Usually, Eurail is not the best place to book.

Usually, you can’t book on the operators website either.

Seat61 has a great section on reservations, and where is the best place to buy them, country by country: https://www.seat61.com/interrail-and-eurail-reservations.htm

You don’t add your reservations to the app - they are completely separate. Usually a PDF or something. You also need to add your train journey to the Trip Planner, however you make your reservation.

Mention your routes, and we can offer better advice.

With very few exceptions, reservations cost money, also if you have a 1st class pass.

"ridiculously high” sounds like you're seeing regular prices instead of pass reservation prices, but there's no way of telling without details (route, date, departure time).

But following the advice on Seat61's pass reservation page is the best. For any train you still can't book, please mention route, date and departure time.

When I go to book on the train site directly, it says I already have a booking. I am trying to book for my daughter + 6 people.  I am obviously using the same email address to make the booking.

None of us here are mind readers, if you do not say which train company, website or journey then there is little more advice that can be given.

Have you read the link @ralderton provided? This gives detailed instructions for passholder reservations broken down by country and operator.

If you are a group of 9, you might need to use group booking, or split the booking in 2 for some railways companies.

Where will you be travelling?

I am travelling as follows:

Innsbruck - Salzburg 15 Dec

Salzburg - Vienna 16 Dec

Vienna - Prague 18 Dec

Prague - Bratislava 20 Dec

Bratislava - Budapest 22 Dec

Innsbruck - Salzburg 15 Dec

Salzburg - Vienna 16 Dec

Vienna - Prague 18 Dec

Book on tickets.oebb.at (or for the last one also on cd.cz) for €3 per seat. It works for max. 5 or 6 people at the same time but both websites will let you select seats from a seat map.

Prague - Bratislava 20 Dec

Bratislava - Budapest 22 Dec

Book on predaj.zssk.sk for €2 per seat. Again for max. 6 people at the same time but you can pick from a seat map. It's still too early for Prague-Bratislava.
