I had 2 questions about purchasing the 4-day pass for France. We will travel from Paris > Lyon > Chamonix > Paris.

1. With the France pass, would travel into Geneva for a day-trip be covered?

2. Are there any issues with the train from Chamonix to Paris going through Switzerland? Our start and end points are both in France but the train changes in Switzerland.

Open to other ideas for travel that may be more efficient.

Merci!

  1. Travel from France to Geneva should be included, since French fares are generally valid to Geneva.
  2. Chamonix to Paris via Switzerland is not included. You'll need an extra ticket to cover the Swiss part. Travel though France should be around the same travel time though. Ask the planner for journeys via Bellegarde.

@1: there are since shortly 2 different lines into GNV-the newest comes from the south, Annemasse, it used to end at a tiny stop just over the border, but this is since last yr extended into GNV via a kind of tunnel-like metro; THIS section is NOT included in FR pass, but a local GNV urban ticket is enough.

The classic other route you can only use the FRench TER trains to Bellegarde (most run onward to Lyon) and not the local Swiss ones. And a few TGV (though they may charge the sat REServ still at the sky-high INternat. rate)
