Do I need to add the journey to the pass (by switching the yellow button on) on the RailPlanner app before I board the train?

Because from past trips I have done this, but when the ticket inspector asks for my interrail pass, the app has not registered the journey and I have to do this procedure again before showing my ticket. The app has these constant bugs.

My friend got a fine because of this? Is this a possibility?

I've only just started my pass today but both journeys I have clicked the button. It creates a QR code in your tickets.

I think it is for best to do so right before boarding a train you know you are definitely getting. I suspect it is there to act as your ticket for the journey.

My two journeys have registered immediately.

Are you online when activating the journey?
