Cancelling/rebooking an Intercity Notte Reservation (Trenitalia)

I needed to change the reservation of a 4bed couchette from Bologna-Palermo to Bologna-Siracusa but couldn’t find an option to cancel or rebook my reservation without costs. (First I wanted to book a 2nd class single bed but couldn’t find a possibility either) My local train company’s office wasn’t able to solve the problem, too.

Is there still a chance to get the reservation, that is not needed refunded.?

Where did you book your reservation?

DB can book reservations for Italian night trains, but they can't do anything with reservations booked elsewhere.

I booked via interrail reservations.

OK, Interrail's refund and exchange policy refers to Appendix 1 of the booking conditions. Appendix 1 refers to Trenitalia's refund rules. The applicable section about night trains can be found here, where it says that refunds are possible with a 20% charge. The BASE fare conditions apply, because a pass reservation is a BASE ticket type for Trenitalia.

If the Interrail website charges more than 20% costs for a refund, then contact customer service:

Edit: there are costs.
