Hello,

i’m currently planing a french and spanish Interrail trip and i have some questions

  1. For the first time i want a mobile pass. Is it true, that i can buy that one today, can buy seat reservations and still choose the first travel day later?
  2. I’ve heard, that there are quite high security standards at Spain trains. Can someone explain to me, if this is true and how this works and how long before the departure you should arrive at the station and ho
  3. Seat reservations: Just in case, i have to adjust something later. First is it possible to reverse seat reservations bought by the Interrail app and if so, how high are the fees therefore? The Interrail website isn’t clear on that for me. In generell, does anybody have an idea how high the reservation fees are for Spain and France?

In generell i would be very thankful for any hints about using trains at France and Spain.

1 Yes, you just have to activate the pass within 11 months of buying it. You can buy reservations before you activate it though.

2 There’s an x-ray security check before any high speed train departing from Spain, and some others. I would aim to be at the big stations like Madrid or Barcelona 30 minutes before departure. Less time is needed for other stations, which aren’t as busy.

3 I’m not sure about refunds and exchanges. Others might know. For reservation costs, this is a good guide

  1. You can't book reservations in the rail planner app. You can buy them on the Interrail website (not recommended) and in many other places, see the pass reservations page on Seat61. Whether you can get a refund or exchange a reservation depends on where you booked it and for which train it was. There is no general answer.

Thank you very much!
