No, you can buy ordinary tickets to travel but if you will travel much in several countries a Eurail pass will most likely be cheaper. But that depends on in which countries and what distances you will travel. A Eurail pass gives you flexibility as you can change your travel plans easy. For some trains you need reservations. This is important to check well in advance.
3rd How does one speak to a real person when they have questions?
There are no real persons at Eurail to speak to but there are lots of people here in the Community who help out.
