I didn't quite understand one thing.

do I have to activate the pass already even if I want to leave in 2024 but I'm not sure the date? What if you activate it but can't start?

Mobile passes can be activated up to 11 months after the purchase date.

It is recommended to activate it right before you start travelling, no need to do it in advance.
