It’s allowed next scenario for inbound journey in last day:

Munchen-Budapest with day train

Budapest: leaving at 23:10, arriving next day 15:06  at Bucharest, no change train?

I assume that arriving dat in Bucharest is in validity period of pass.

Yes this is allowed and would only use a single travel day. Remember to book the night train in advance (through ÖBB) : couchettes and sleepers are quite cheap on this route. :)

Btw the same last train leaves Vienna at 19:42 if it's more convenient for you!

The only time it wouldn't work is this journey happens on the last day of the validity period -> example : you've got a pass valid from 6th January to 5th February and you wish to arrive in Budapest on 6th February. This wouldn't work.
