Outbound with several stops

Hello to everyone,

 

we are planning a  Interrail for the following two weeks and are planning to go to Scandinavia. We are starting in Freiburg in Southern Germany and our first stop is supposed to be Copenhagen. We have to change trains in Hamburg and we were wondering wether it would be possible to take the train from Freiburg early in the morning to Hamburg and spent some hours there and then taking the latest train possible to Copenhagen - is this allowed as a outbound trip?

Absolutely no problem as long as your last train in Germany is scheduled before 23.59.

However I don’t know if you need reservations from Ham to Cop - If so make sure you have one for your target train or you could have to wait for a train the next day, which would either take your second I/O day or cost you to the first station outside Germany.

You can choose how you travel for your outward journey as you please.

 

Hamburg - Copenhagen direct trains require reservations and are often full (mainly due to being far too short for the route).

There are reservation free alternatives for that journey using slower trains with connections.

NO- RES for HH->DK/direkt must be done via dsb.dk.

In the night there is not really a feasible ALT to this overnite train, having you leave from DE.

IF this is still in aug-and IF you want to spend the night in Hafencity: use 9€-bestimmt haste das schon-bis Flensburg and can even use Stadtwerke bus bis in DK-or pay for single extra till borderpoint

You can take as many trains necessary to leave/re-enter your country of residence on out/inbound days. A travel day is considered a 24-hour period that lasts from midnight to midnight. As long as you have crossed the German border into Denmark before midnight then you're still within the bounds of the outbound day :)

This isn't really true. You need to board the train in Germany before midnight but the train doesn't need to cross the border before midnight. Isn't it so? @rvdborgt

If I recall correctly that's how it was explained earlier. And the app also works that way - although that's no guarantee that it follows the rules...
