My husband and I each have a Eurail pass and have been able to use it to book travel for ourselves-- however, we also have our 2 year old with us.  Does he need to have his own separate pass in order to board the train?  I’ve read that we don’t need to purchase a separate seat for him, but I am wondering if he will still need his own pass or ticket in order to get on the train.

Thank you for your help!

You can bring a child that age for free without ticket as said but you are expected to keep them on your lap if trains are busy and on reservation mandatory trains you will only have 2 allocated seats for the adults.

If you don't want to make a seat reservation for the child you don't need a children's pass if the child is under 4 years old.

Anywhere in west-Eur all transit is free for kids <4 (even 6 in a very few countries), taken on lap if its full. If you take a stroller-take a smaller, collapsible one for child-for easyness to take along
