Hi, I guess it’s a train of the “Deutsche Bahn”. A ticket does not guarantee a seat, because they sell more tickets than there are seats on the train. If you want to make sure to have a seat, you need to book it separately. If there are non-reserved seats, you are free to take them. It depends on the weekday and time if it's necessary to reserve. If you travel alone it is normally not that hard to find a seat, but if you travel with a few people it’s probably not that easy. Reserving a seat costs 4 Euro per person. You can reserve them at the following website. https://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/dn?&rit=yes Best wishes Thank you!
When reservation is optional, a ticket does not guarantee a seat. A reservation, on the other hand, does guarantee a seat. The Amsterdam - Berlin trains can be busy but it very much depends on the day and the time of day. So "in June” is much too vague. Busy times are Friday and Sunday afternoon/evening and around holidays, especially around long weekends such as the weekend of Ascension day (in May this year) or Whitsun weekend. The latter one is 4-6 June, so expect busy trains on Fri 3 June and Sun 6 June. Booking a reservation is not expensive though. Just 3€ via ÖBB or 4€ (€5.30 in 1st class) via DB (choose “Seat only” for both). Eurail want 8€. Note: On most days in June, the trains Berlin - Amsterdam don't seem to serve the main station (Hbf) but Gesundbrunnen instead. They also serve Berlin Spandau (as always). Depending on where you're staying, it may be better to get to one or the other (by S-Bahn or regional trains, also included in the pass). You can enter "via Stendal” to
The S-Bahn trains are included in the Eurail global pass? Yes they are. In Berlin, they're run by DB and DB trains are included. Wonderful--thank you!
By the way, there are also TER trains that you can use without reservation. They only take a bit longer. Ok, thank you for both of your responses!
You have to contact Customer Service or ask one of the Eurail Supervisor of this community to provide you with a PassCoverNumber :) (As PassCoverNumber are usually just the numbers of the Paperpasses recognised the mobile passes have a new system :/)@Leo @Felipe.iturrieta @Nanja can you provide a PassCoverNumber here? Ok, thank you!
Ok, thank you. Bahn.de would not allow the town or train station to be entered to search for tickets. I've bought Berlin--Amsterdam tickets on their website, though. Thanks!
Yes--reservations for the Toulouse Matabiou--Narbonne train. Mcadv mentioned trying Bahn.de for these tickets, but no luck. Thanks for the guidance!
@Kprui381 Mcadv mentioned that you could try to look at bahn.de for the trains, and if you take an TER you don’t need a reservation an you only have to hop on the train with your Eurail (= Ticket) Yes, I checked TER, too. They don't have their schedules that far in advance, it says, but I'll keep it in mind. It's good to know, thanks!
Yes, I checked TER, too. They don't have their schedules that far in advance, it says, but I'll keep it in mind. It's good to know, thanks! TER schedules for 15 June are available on bahn.de. I also see them on various SNCF websites. I was able to get them through SNCB International. I don't know why they weren't showing up earlier--i must've been looking in the wrong place. Thank you for your help. Do you happen to know what it means when a TGV train's fare is "limited availability"?
Hi Kprui381, if you have not received a Pass Cover number yet, please send your order number (starting with EU), via a private message. I can then send over the Pass Cover number. Hello. Thank you, but I actually was able to get what I needed via SNCB International. Thanks, anyway!
What about using the Eurail inside the city on the day you arrive/leave a city (so you're not using extra travel days)? I was going to ask the original question, but for Madrid, Paris, and Amsterdam. I know the cities have metro systems that I can buy tickets for, but if I need to travel on the metro in that city on the same day I arrive/leave that city, will I be able to use the Eurail pass?
On a travel day, you can use Eurail in as many trains as you want, but only in trains of the participating companies. Metro systems however are not run by the railways and can therefore not be used with Eurail. Ah. Thank you for clarifying!
