Yes - I’ve scoured this very helpful forum before asking my questions. Noone has ever answered the adjacent seats question and, as far as I can see, it has been raised once in the past. Never mind, I’m sure I will figure it out. My question about RENFE timetables and train numbers still stands, but hey ho, again, I guess I’ll figure it out eventually. Its hard to meet your criteria for asking a question when the question itself relates to the issue of timetables changing but, again, I guess I’ll figure it out by asking elsewhere.
Many thanks mcadv - yes, I am assuming all renfe tix need to be reserved and am also aware of how to do it. I was just wondering about the date the timetable changes or when seats are generally released for booking / reservation as we’re travelling late sept into oct… My question wasn’t about reservations rather that train numbers - sorry if not clear. I guess if I can see the trains on the RENFE site and tix are bookable then reservations will also be able to be made (yes I know I can’t do this online at RENFE).
Hi there - it’s very frustrating isn’t it. I wonder if it mght work if you make the reservations with RENFE by phone and then your friend pick up the reservations in Madrid? I know that you have to collect / pay for in person reservations within 72 hours … the other option that seems to work for people is calling DB reservations who can apparanetly book the reservations for you if you know the train numbers. I;m goingto give this a whirl for my trip in September … good luck!
Hi there - I just get the guy recommended by Man in Seat 61 to make the bookings (for a small fee). Really easy.
Seems to be a small office-or maybe even a knowledgeable individual with some contacts (like that Italiarail-a 1 or 2 person office near BOS/Mass with a connection to that TrenIt system) in GB with limited opening hours. THis means it at least doubles the total to pay and if it is open to non-islanders out of GB is unclear. It’s one booking fee per booking (ie ALL of the reservations for our two person multi journey interrail trip in Spain). I suppose I could have called DB and waited on hold for a looooooong time on an international number but this worked for me really well. Also - perhaos less of an issue for me as I already feel we got a great bargain with the 50% off interrail tickets.
Thanks everyone!
