Hi there,

I am new to this platform and was quite frustrated that interrail does not offer customer service over the phone 👎🏻 So hopefully you guys can help me out!

I am a Dutch guy currently living in Belgium (Antwerp). My office is located in Breda and therefore I am looking at travelling by train to station Breda-Prinsenbeek (close to my office). The global pass (3 months) could then come in handy as it allows you to travel internationally by train. Here are my questions:

  1. Can I go in- and outbound on the same day from BE to NL?
  2. In NL I need to transfer from Breda Central Station to Breda-Prinsenbeek station. As BE is currently my country of residence the transfer inside NL will be seen as a journey abroad right, so this does not comprise my in-outbound trips?
  3. Does the Global Pass really work as unlimited travel in that sense within Europe?

If someone knows the answer I would be very grateful. This would mean that I could commute by train (and therefore work during commuting time) and in addition, go travel other European cities on the same plan.

Many thanks in advance and best regards,

Jeroen

  1. A global pass will count that as one in/outbound day. Remember you normally only have 2 of them (some people have 3, there's a pilot going on).
  2. Correct.
  3. Yes it does, but with a global pass, you can only travel in your country of residence on 2 (or 3, see above) of your travel days. The Benelux pass is not valid in your country of residence if you live in the Benelux.

If you want to commute daily or regularly, you'll need to look into subscriptions from NS and NMBS (trajectabonnementen). For an international commute, you'll need Antwerp to Hazeldonk(grens) from NMBS and Hazeldonk(grens) to Breda Prinsenbeek from NS.

You have a 2 days limitation in your country of residence. This strategy will not work I’m afraid.

This is likely of interest : https://www.nsinternational.com/en/train-fares-and-discounts/ns-flex-traject-vrij

Maybe @rvdborgt can help further (hope you don’t mind being tagged!)

EDIT : I’ve also found this blog from 2019 https://chaitralilatkar.home.blog/2019/03/22/travelling-between-belgium-netherlands/

Thanks for your input! I will check what the cost will vendor both of these subscriptions (NL & BE).

Verdere vragen daarover kun je misschien beter stellen in de NS-community.
