I am residing in Turkey. But I came to Germany with the Erasmus program and I am living here until October 2022. My permanent residence is in Turkey. Right now, I will take advantage of the 50% discount of the interrail pass and buy a ticket where I can travel unlimited for a month. I will start my journey in Germany and finish it in Germany. Is this a problem? In the ticket information, it is said that there is only one right to go and one return to the country of residence. In this case, if I start from Germany, can I use it once in Germany? Do I have to start my trip from Turkey?

Right now, I am living in Turkey. I do like to travel and I do like trains. I specifically like to visit (good) zoos which is why I am interested in visiting (and maybe living in) Europe. I hope that I am able to find all the answers I need before I am set to do my very first interrail journey.

Hey, I've seen that you're here to sort of help with queries and stuff, I'm really stuck!

I had to restart my phone and then log back into my interrail app.  Once I tried to log back in it said that my pass was linked to another device so it couldn't be added to this device - but its still my same phone! I had to buy another train ticket to start my journey, but I still can't log into my interraill app with my pass as it won't let me!

I have already bought the ticket though interrails website and made reservations etc.  

Please, is there any way you can help me?

Hi my name is Vern (mein Name ist Vern, me llamo Vern, eu me chamo Vern, Ja se sovem Vern) I am new to the group, but am passionate about travel. As you can see, I speak several languages and have travelled extensively. I am a retired US foreign service officer and have visited at least 86 different countries and have lived in Germany, Argentina, Paraguay and Japan. I am returning to Europe to show my sister around in June of this year. We will be visiting Germany, Switzerland and Austria. She is going to see those countries for the first time, I am going mostly to practice my rusty German. I would absolutely love to meet with any German speakers who are living or visiting the places we will be going during my trip if anyone is interested in chatting with me. We will be in Frankfurt, Rothenberg, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Zermatt, Innsbruck, Salzburg, Berchtesgaden and Vienna. Whew! Sadly I found out about the “travel in your own country only on outbound and inbound journeys”. At the moment I am not sure if you have to actually cross the border on that outbound journey or just get close to it. Since I have yet another cousin live at Flensburg close to the Danish border and it would make so much sense to stay with her before heading on to Norway or Sweden.

You can basically use 2 of your travel days in your country of residence, whether you cross a border or not. For any additional travel days in your country of residence, you'll have to buy extra tickets. Flensburg is actually not too bad, since the extra ticket would only be from Flensburg to Flensburg Grenze (buy from DB ticket office) and would not cost very much. For any more questions, just post a separate question.

Hi everyone!

I am Nicco from Germany. I love trains. Honestly. I have been dreaming about going on an interrail trip through Europe for 15 years or more by now. However my current involvement is more due the fact that climate change is what it is and I am firmly decided to only use trains whenever it is feasible. Also a friend of mine is soon going to go to Norway and my cousin is currently studying in Sweden so I got the idea to visit both and some more people on the way. Sadly I found out about the “travel in your own country only on outbound and inbound journeys”. Anyway. Personally I am more inclined to travel south since I am very tolerant of heat but not so much of cold lol then again I want to travel to all the countries in Europe (the world xD) at some point. I mean I also know people in the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, France, Czech Republik, England, Switzerland, who I guess I have to visit eventually xD And everyone tells me there is such beautiful nature in Sweden, so as a plant lover (Really. I am. Like I am a botanist, that amount of love for plants^^) I have to go and see it for myself. 

 

This life we have is short, so let us leave a seed for people to grow.

my name is Josephine, I´m from germany, 19 years old and I am so excited to start my first of (hopefully) many Interrails this year. I´ve been planning and imagining visiting europe by rail for 2 years now. Covid and other plans got in the way unfortunately :( .

 

But this year me and my friends actually won tickets trough Discover EU and we are set to leave in July on a tour of South-East Europe :raised_hands_tone2: . It´s really different not only imagining those trips but really setting things in motion and booking hostels but we are so excited to explore so many countries and cultures. I really love traditional cuisine and local restaurants but I´m also a huge activities person and love hiking, swimming and am always down for an adventure. 

 

What I love about Europe is that I personally feel like there is something here for everyone. Each country and region is so unique but welcoming, that I feel like everybody can find somewhere to belong and feel at home. I´ve always loved growing up here and being able to do city trips and get a glimpse of a different reality.

You had a mixed order like Paris - Germany - Switzerland - Italy :) (The question is which Cities in Germany as Berlin, Cologne,Hamburg can be best done between Czech and Amsterdam :) )

Which way depends on you :D (I start usually in North West when suggesting Routes down to South East :D )

(Maybe because that´s how the Standard Tour Packages are advertised :D )

@seewulf - I thought about the route going up to Amsterdam first…any reason why you think going that way is better than going south first?

Note that on some routes Reservations must be paid on top of the railpass :) Especially on Highspeedservices in France,Italy (Spain).
Maybe Paris - (Brussels) - Amsterdam - Cologne - Berlin - Prague - Vienna/Bratislava - Budapest - Split - Zagreb - Lubljana - Trieste - Venice - Innsbruck - Switzerland - Geneva - Paris :)

We started our group trips always with writting a list what everybody want´s to see :) and then bring it in a logical order :)

(Proud to say my mom was voted best travel agent in Canada!) the travel bug was passed on from my mom to me, and I have passed on to my kids too. I’m a Canadian teacher who is planning an epic tour of Europe summer 2022, with kids and husband. I’m hoping to reach out to some people and get some good itineraries, thinking of starting in Paris, then to Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Croatia, Austria, Czech, Amsterdam then back to Paris. Hello All!

My name is Tom, I’m retired and I live in Seattle. I am a Canadian by birth and heart and have dual citizenship with Canadian and US passports. I love trains since backpacking in Europe with a Eurail pass when I was 21. Armed with a Thomas Cook timetable I loved the advantages of train travel.  The cars were compartments of six seats which we layed flat to sleep on until border control woke us. Loved the ability to buy my food in town and then eat my lunch on the train. Better than driving a car with all the obvious reasons. Stayed in hostels and pensions across Europe, took a boat to the Canary Islands when the Worlds worst airplane crash happened on Tenerife while there. Chris-crossed back across Europe to Vienna to see the World hockey championships. I enjoy trying the local language with a high level of respect for Europeans that can speak multiple languages. 

The ability to be spontaneous with a Eurail pass (In 2019 jumped on a train to Venice for a day trip when in Florence) makes train travel all the more exciting. 

The respect for other cultures were ingrained though hostel buddies and engaging with locals. I am still self-planning and traveling, now passing these joys onto my wife. Hostels have been replaced with small owner run hotels and the Mobile Pass is my newest challenge. Planning a 6 country trip this coming May for one month. Over the past 10 years I have used Rick Steve’s resources to plan the trips.

Last summer I did an Interrail trip to Italy and absolutely loved it! I joined this community to hear about your experience, share mine and also exchange travel advices.

My favourite thing about travelling is to wander around in places where no one knows me and everything feels exciting. Probably we should often try to see our homes with the eyes of a visitor too because as a passenger I’m able to fall in love with such small things.

my name is Inês and I am originally from Portugal but I live currently in Spain! I love books and traveling and music, as well as skateboarding and swimming. I have traveled throughout Europe quite a bit and I have already done 1 interrail as a gift to myself when I graduated uni! 

For me traveling by train, makes me feel relaxed and getting the chance to travel Europe while basking the marvelous views from the train window is just a plus for me. If you have never traveled through train in Austria DO IT, there are some of the best views.
