Thanks to Yorkie and Al _G. My appreciation for your input.Bill L.
Just reserved two first class seats on the outward and return leg (Preston to Euston -- Euston to Preston) , on Avanti West Coast. I have a first class Interrail Global Pass so assumed that would suffice for first class travel on UK trains. Just seen a post that suggests Avanti only allow Standard Premium reservation with a first class pass. What is also confusing is that the seating plan on the pendolino gives a number of carriages with first/sp above them apart from K. So, is first class and standard premium seating in those cars the same but you don't get the complimentary refreshments with SP. Or are there different seats in each carriage relating to the class one is travelling on?Long winded I know but trying to avoid an embarrassing situation when seated and the train is in motion. As you might have guessed we are first time pass holders so any help/advice would be most welcome.Bill Lowe.
Once again Brendan, many thanks. I guess I'll just wait and see what transpires at boarding. Only done a couple of first class rail journey's and on both occasions there were loads of empty seats.
Just reserved two first class seats on an ICE from Paris to Karlsruhe using my Interrail Global Pass. Seat reservations are compulsory on this leg of our journey but the seats allocated via the Interrail reservation system are totally unacceptable. Although they are consecutively numbered they are on a single row so travelling one behind the other. On contacting the booking service I was told that the rail company allocate the seats and so they cannot help. Do any fellow experienced rail travellers have potential solutions? Many thanks.
Thanks for that.
Many thanks Anna.
Many thanks for all the very useful information. Like any new venture it's only when experiencing for the first time that you realise you need information/advice from experienced travellers.
Many thanks to all the replies. For a first time interrailer they were most useful.
ACP Rail. LNER couldn't seem to organise the route we wanted and I was getting nowhere trying to book through the Interrail site. The rail planner on the Interrail site said seat reservations were required and so I assumed there would be a cost involved.
Many thanks for that. I have booked the UK leg directly with the rail company and paid £8 reservation fee. I have also managed to book the Eurostar to Paris through Eurostar with a reservation fee of 80 euros. (for 2)Seems a bit steep considering we have already paid for a Global Pass and no doubt we will incur another seat reservation fee when we depart Gare de Lyon. I note that when we reach Switzerland no fees are applicable on their rail network and the pass includes travel on the Golden Pass Line which is a nice surprise. Once again, I appreciate your assistance.Regards.
