Thanks. I did that but I don’t see a button to close the request. But oh well, at least I could add a comment that the issue is not relevant any more.
Not sure what you mean with “double bookings” as no seats are booked when you buy a pass. Also, as you have 11 months to use both passes they can both be used very well without overlap so there is no “doubleness” in that sense either.(But sure, I understand what you mean. You want to cancel the first pass you bought and get the money back for it, as you intend to travel only once anyway and the discounted pass provides more for less. But please don't use misleading terminology like “double booking”, that won’t increase your credibility.)
Should I not book on the interrail website but rather on the website of each train company ? In the case of NIghtjet trains, I would definitely suggest to book directly from the operator, ÖBB. https://tickets.oebb.at . As @MartinM says, book “normally” (do not attempt to click some “only seat” or somesuch), but make sure to choose Interrail/Eural as the reduction for each passenger. Then you will get the price for just the reservation in the seated/couchette/sleeping-car you want.
But really-this must be a grand mistake/error. You will NOT get any berth/sleeper/bunk/bed for just 4 €-even in UKrayna before the war it cost more Ah indeed. I didn’t even pay attention to that. The €92 for a “berth” in a 4 person compartment again sounds way too expensive, if it means one reservation in a shared 4 person couchette. Unless it perhaps means single occupancy? Etc. The whole table is weird.@sophie.a , where is this table from? What website? Is perhaps some automatic translation involved?
Advice is to use some other site to search. Like that of Swiss railways, https://sbb.ch , In this case I almost advice not to look at the site of the railway in question, https://rhb.ch , as they try hard to convince tourists to take the specially priced touristy trains…And yes, there are lots of other trains that run the exact same route, with the exact same views, without any additional fees. Once an hour or so. When you use such you can stop at some station for a short walk and continue in one or two hours, for instance. Not so if you insist on traveling in the special price ”Express” train and just have to sit therr at your expensive seat.
In this context, ”berth” apparently means a reservation in a couchette car while ”sleeper” means a reservation in a sleeping car. Read https://seat61.com for information on the difference between couchette and sleeping car.
You can check whether there are free seats on trains directly on the operator’s website. For internal trains in Italy, that would be trenitalia.com. Please note that Italy is not a very “Interrail-friendly” country to travel in. Especially if you have a non-continuous Interrail pass (of the type “5 days in one month” etc) and you are going to travel in other countries, too. It might well be that some trips inside Italy are cheaper to buy as normal tickets than what the price of your Interrail pass divided by the number of days it is valid is. Plus, for the high-speed trains there is a 10€ surcharge if you use Interrail that you need to take into account, too. Then it might be better to “save” the travel days in other countries. On the other hand, it is annoying to buy a “10 days in two months” type of pass and then notice when your trip is about to end that you have unused travel days left. Optimising what tickets to use for what trip is really a hard problem.
