Hello, new to this level of train travel, and desperately trying to figure out how to put together a trip for six by rail.

hello, I have a few questions about the rules of home country travel (I need 3) and calculating travel days when using nightjet. Haven’t used the ticket before, but seems to make sense for a multi trip i’m planing in Germany/Italy/France this summer.

Anyway I posted a really really long question and it just disappeared - it’s not showing in my profile either. Is it just being checked by moderators and will appear later or have I lost it for good? Thanks!

It's probably lost. This is your first post, according to your profile. Best is to try again (or use the search function because I have the feeling your questions have been asked before :). You can also type your question in a text editor and copy it in the textbox, so you don't loose the text if something goes wrong again.

Oh! I was advised it's been deleted so i created a new one! Sorry for the confusion this has created.

My name is Don from Vancouver, BC, Canada, my wife, Barb, and I have decided to travel to Europe for the first time. We have been retired for several years now and most of our other travels were south to Mexico, Hawaii and Caribbean Islands, so this trip will not be like anything we have done before but looking forward to travelling by rail, so we may need some help.

Looking forward to visiting historical sites, sight seeing and trying local foods, this fall. We have 6 weeks, starting in Amsterdam heading south, stopping along the way, ending up in Rome.

I never got to travel when I was I younger due to family/financial commitments. So at the age of 62 I have just bought a 2 month continuous interrail pass for Europe. I am nervous but excited & enjoying doing the research into where I want to go. It's never too late.

Hi Julie,

Any idea when you’ll be jumping into the deep end of the pool???

I’m planning on heading to the most northern railroad station in Europe in mid-February and working my way down to southern Spain before meeting friends in France to hike along the Emerald Coast from Saint Malo to Mount Saint Michael at the beginning of April.

We are Mike and Margaret and will start our train travels within 2 weeks.  We live in the US, the state of Florida.
we have traveled by train in Thailand and Australia are super excited about our travels in Europe.(6-8 countries and numerous stops)We have a 60 day Global pass and will be staying at  AirB&B during our travels.

I do have hundreds of questions but please let me know any of your travel by train tips and I am sure some of those questions will be answered.

Thanks and I look forward to your advice.  See you on the platform.

Hi, my name is Mike and I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.  My wife and I are a couple of seniors who love to travel and besides travelling by train in North America we also have over 35 cruises under our belt.  My wife is originally from the UK so we have travelled there by train when visiting and by train to France and Spain.  We had purchased a Eurail pass for a trip around part of Europe last September but our plans were scuttled by Covid-19.  We received a refund and are now planning another trip.  We are cruising from Ft. Lauderdale to Southampton in March and would like to take the train from St Pancras to Brussels, Prague, Budapest, Venice, Bavaria, Amsterdam and back to London.  Considering this and all of the testing required from country to country is it doable to travel and spend a couple of days in each place before moving on? Or is the testing and forms for each country an impediment?

HI Stan

You sound very organised. I am going on 1st September planing to start with Amsterdam.

Julie.

Hi there, I’m Max from the US. Gonna be traveling to the EU for the first time ever in the next two months. I’m fully vaccinated and eager to ride the train across the continent.

Hi everyone, am Azees from Singapore married with 3 lovely kids. I died in 2014 due to a freak accident but came back to life. This is my 2nd life.

I have booked my flight from Singapore to Zurich on the 3rd Dec 2021. Thereafter travelling to Paris, Berlin, Milan, Rome and back to Zurich all in 18days. We have been seating like a duck in our home town for almost 2 years. Enough is enough and its time for us to come out of our pond since the travel lanes from Singapore to Europe is now open.

So much information in the web and some are really confusing. Should I use Eurail or Swiss pass? or purchase both? Flight and hotel booked and now I need to connect all the locations via train. Seriously, am going insane. Need a helping hand here pls. Cheers all and keep safe.

Hey guys,

my name is Inês and I am originally from Portugal but I live currently in Spain! I love books and traveling and music, as well as skateboarding and swimming. I have traveled throughout Europe quite a bit and I have already done 1 interrail as a gift to myself when I graduated uni!

For me traveling by train, makes me feel relaxed and getting the chance to travel Europe while basking the marvelous views from the train window is just a plus for me. If you have never traveled through train in Austria DO IT, there are some of the best views.

@Jacky  How long? and Cities or nature?

Note that on some routes Reservations must be paid on top of the railpass :) Especially on Highspeedservices in France,Italy (Spain).
Maybe Paris - (Brussels) - Amsterdam - Cologne - Berlin - Prague - Vienna/Bratislava - Budapest - Split - Zagreb - Lubljana - Trieste - Venice - Innsbruck - Switzerland - Geneva - Paris :)

We started our group trips always with writting a list what everybody want´s to see :) and then bring it in a logical order :)

Hi my name is Vern (mein Name ist Vern, me llamo Vern, eu me chamo Vern, Ja se sovem Vern) I am new to the group, but am passionate about travel. As you can see, I speak several languages and have travelled extensively. I am a retired US foreign service officer and have visited at least 86 different countries and have lived in Germany, Argentina, Paraguay and Japan. I am returning to Europe to show my sister around in June of this year. We will be visiting Germany, Switzerland and Austria. She is going to see those countries for the first time, I am going mostly to practice my rusty German. I would absolutely love to meet with any German speakers who are living or visiting the places we will be going during my trip if anyone is interested in chatting with me. We will be in Frankfurt, Rothenberg, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Zermatt, Innsbruck, Salzburg, Berchtesgaden and Vienna. Whew! Ich würde sehr gerne während meiner Reise mit irgendjemandem auf Deutsch plaudieren. Tschüss!

Thank you for the kind welcome to the Eurail community!  We are Scott and Lisa embarking on travel after raising our 3 sons. I first became inspired to travel from a young age visiting my French grandparents.  In my teens and into my twenties I backpacked through Europe using a Eurail pass in the early and mid 80’s.  Loved train travel- ease of exploration, beautiful scenery, meeting fellow hostel users and locals and discovering new places.  My husband has never been to Europe nor experienced train travel, so very excited to share it all with him.  France and Switzerland are our first trip’s destinations.
I am feeling a bit nervous planning the trip, so reading the posts from this community is giving me a renewed can-do spirit!  Thank you!

Hi,

My name is George and I am with a multicultural background, speaking four languages fluently.
On the paper I am American, but with a very heavy Central / East European background.
I am a computer engineer and in mid-1970-s, when I was a teen became familiar with international railway tariffs (MPT,  TCV).

I keep it up, recently more traveling by car or using EURail (can also use InterRail, by EURail is more convenient) than by calculating tariffs.

I am somewhat of a “rebel”, so don’t be surprised if my answers are more reflecting the reality on the ground than the “official” version from the owner of an office desk.

Hello, I am Bora.

Right now, I am living in Turkey. I do like to travel and I do like trains. I specifically like to visit (good) zoos which is why I am interested in visiting (and maybe living in) Europe. I hope that I am able to find all the answers I need before I am set to do my very first interrail journey.

I wish everyone a very good day.

Cheers!!

heyo :) I‘m Lena, 18 years old and from Austria. I‘m currently on my Interrail trip. I wanna share my route with you - maybe someone’s in the same city at the same time and wanna meet up.

Hi there,

I’m Damaris from Germany.
This summer is my first trip with Interrail. It is amazing and I love to see so many places in a short time. I love to connect with people all over the world and love to learn new languages. My whole life I traveled with the car and stayed at camping places. I only flew a few times, but with a car or a train you can see how beautiful the different landscapes are.

My name is Stan Smith.

I’m American, but live in Germany with my wife and my youngest daughter.

I love backpacking epic European trails and pilgrimage routes. I also enjoy working in my garden, beekeeping, mountain biking and hiking.

I’ve pretty much always flown or driven everywhere over the past twelve years, but this past December my wife and I went to the Arctic Circle from Helsinki using the night train and I absolutely loved it.

Hello good folks of Eurail community!

My name is Kathi. I am an educator who loves to travel and learn about new places, people and culture.

We are from Wisconsin, and are embarking on our very first journey to France at the beginning of June and are excited, but anxious, as we are still learning how to use our Eurail pass and how to navigate the trains.

We have been to London, and the Rhine River area in Germany last year and absolutely loved both areas! We were met with interesting things to do and beautiful areas to explore! All the people we met were helpful and lovely!

I’m looking forward to chatting with you all and learning from you. Have safe travels everyone!

Kathi

Hello fellow railtrotters!

My name is Brendan, living in Ghent, Belgium. If you haven’t visited it yet, please to. It has a lot more to offer than Bruges ;)

I started interrailing in 2016, when I did a Scandinavia trip with my best friends. Since then I discovered the joys and comfort of long-distance train travel and me and my friends are completely hooked to it. Every year I did at least a trip since then.

Slowly but gradually convincing (and helping) everyone that wants to try it, to discover Europe by rail. It’s a much more relaxed way of trotting around, provinding ideal combinations between cultural city trips and outies in nature.

Professionally, I work in the spatial planning department of the goverment, trying to make our patch of earth a bit more sustainable. I was also active in an organisation promoting sustainable travel. In spare time, I like hiking, biking and swimming and travelling by train.

Any questions about hidden gems in Belgium, shoot. Happy to help you!

All the best,

Brendan

Hi Brendan, fully agree that Gent (Ghent) has more to offer than Brugge (Bruges). gent is much more of a real place and I have enjoyed my visits there. I lived in Belgium for quite a while, mainly living and working in Brussels.

Hi Brendan, agree about Gent, a real city that’s well worth a visit? Your job sounds excellent. A Belgian gem for me is De Haan.

Hi my name is Patty, I am in my 60’s and will be traveling with my older sister throughout Poland for 3 weeks in August.  I have previously used trains in London and around Denmark and into Sweden but have not used the Eurail pass system.  We quickly purchased Poland Eurail passes on a Promo at the beginning of the year and while I know it is a cost savings I’m now finding all of the information a little daunting. I’m glad that I started researching early to try and make this trip as stress free as possible. It doesn’t help that my sister is technologically challenged. 😐  I too am trying to decide if it will be best to just keep both passes on my phone.  I appreciate communities like this that can help answer questions.
