Hi all

My name is Yvonne, and out of some kind of joke travelled within one day from my home town in Switzerland all the way to Edinburgh. Since then we are some kind of hooked on to traveling longer distances by train. Our next trip will us bring back to Scotland, with a visit to Speyside and hopefully Orkney. And by end of year, we will be heading to northern Germany for another trip.

If anybody needs advise for travelling in Switzerland, I am always happy to help. Also to share about our trip with TGV and Eurostar.

Safe travels!

Yvonne

Hi my name is Katie.I am 15 and from ireland.

I am hoping to do the discoverEU travel when im 18 and in the next two years go interrailing with my family. I love train travel because it is such a peaceful and fun way to travel. And also I get travel sick on buses so trains suit me better. I haven't used interrail yet but I’m looking forward to interrailing. I love photography (INSTA : katieroisinphotography )as well as travel of course. If anyone has any questions about ireland i will do my best to answer them. I love making itineraries as well even if i dont have any immediate plans to visit the place. I can speak english irish french and a bit of german as well.

Looking forward to connecting with people and traveling :)

Hi my name is Darrell.  I am 48 and from Canada.

I have been lucky enough that my job has moved me to Europe as I am the EMEA Zone Director for our company.  As a traveling Sales person I get to go all over the place and love it.  I have been activelly travelling since 2005 all over EU, and Middle East with some trips to Asia/Australia/New Zealand.  I love all methods of travel, train, plane, car rental etc., but my favorite is Train, I always find I reconnect with people my surroundings and my schedule actually slows down (even in the fast trains :)).

I am looking forward to being part of this community and sharing my experiences, and getting help on new activites i wish to do, from those who have done them.

Cheers

Hello everyone  ,

my name is Josephine, I´m from germany, 19 years old and I am so excited to start my first of (hopefully) many Interrails this year. I´ve been planning and imagining visiting europe by rail for 2 years now. Covid and other plans got in the way unfortunately :( .

But this year me and my friends actually won tickets trough Discover EU and we are set to leave in July on a tour of South-East Europe :raised_hands_tone2: . It´s really different not only imagining those trips but really setting things in motion and booking hostels but we are so excited to explore so many countries and cultures. I really love traditional cuisine and local restaurants but I´m also a huge activities person and love hiking, swimming and am always down for an adventure.

What I love about Europe is that I personally feel like there is something here for everyone. Each country and region is so unique but welcoming, that I feel like everybody can find somewhere to belong and feel at home. I´ve always loved growing up here and being able to do city trips and get a glimpse of a different reality.

Great travels everyone!

Hello fellow railtrotters!

My name is Brendan, living in Ghent, Belgium. If you haven’t visited it yet, please to. It has a lot more to offer than Bruges ;)

I started interrailing in 2016, when I did a Scandinavia trip with my best friends. Since then I discovered the joys and comfort of long-distance train travel and me and my friends are completely hooked to it. Every year I did at least a trip since then.

Slowly but gradually convincing (and helping) everyone that wants to try it, to discover Europe by rail. It’s a much more relaxed way of trotting around, provinding ideal combinations between cultural city trips and outies in nature.

Professionally, I work in the spatial planning department of the goverment, trying to make our patch of earth a bit more sustainable. I was also active in an organisation promoting sustainable travel. In spare time, I like hiking, biking and swimming and travelling by train.

Any questions about hidden gems in Belgium, shoot. Happy to help you!

All the best,

Brendan

Hello, my name is Ruben. I’m 24 and from the Netherlands.

I’ve travelled 3 times with interrail until now. Did my first one in 2017, and after that 2 solo trips.

I’ve been a lot to Germany, Switzerland and Czech Republic.

When I’m not traveling I’m working as salesman in the agricultural sector.

I hope to be able to help people out here and get some tips for new journeys.

Kind regards,

Ruben

Hi Folks,

I’m David from Melbourne and, together with my wife, Tegwen, we are planning a european holiday to celebrate our retirement. We left the UK in 1983 and lived in Africa and the Midddle East for 10 years. We moved to Australia 30 years ago. We are starting at Perugia where one of our nephews is getting married in May 2024. The plan is to move on to Florence, then Lugano, Luzern, Lausanne in Switzerland, then on to Avignan, Perpignan in France ending up in Barcelona, Spain.

It’s a bucket list trip!

Hi everyone!

I am Nicco from Germany. I love trains. Honestly. I have been dreaming about going on an interrail trip through Europe for 15 years or more by now. However my current involvement is more due the fact that climate change is what it is and I am firmly decided to only use trains whenever it is feasible. Also a friend of mine is soon going to go to Norway and my cousin is currently studying in Sweden so I got the idea to visit both and some more people on the way. Sadly I found out about the “travel in your own country only on outbound and inbound journeys”. At the moment I am not sure if you have to actually cross the border on that outbound journey or just get close to it. Since I have yet another cousin live at Flensburg close to the Danish border and it would make so much sense to stay with her before heading on to Norway or Sweden.

Anyway. Personally I am more inclined to travel south since I am very tolerant of heat but not so much of cold lol then again I want to travel to all the countries in Europe (the world xD) at some point. I mean I also know people in the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, France, Czech Republik, England, Switzerland, who I guess I have to visit eventually xD And everyone tells me there is such beautiful nature in Sweden, so as a plant lover (Really. I am. Like I am a botanist, that amount of love for plants^^) I have to go and see it for myself.

Hi everyone, it’s good to be here. I'm inspired by Greta Thunberg not to fly for the moment. I am an 84-year-young traveller, looking forward (with some trepidation given the situation) to my next 2-month trip starting September 1st.

I am British, living in France, now a Brexit expatriate! My first Interrail trip through the Balkans as far as Greece took me to 11 countries. Last year restrictions made me manage “only” five. I had wanted to go to Georgia this year, but that seems too ambitious at the moment. Any ideas about that, anyone?

I love staying in youth hostels, meeting great people and helping to bridge the generation gap.

I will probably start on September 1st with day and night trains north, straight to Copenhagen, never having visited Denmark or Scandinavia.

In addition to English, I am fully fluent in French and German and get by with Italian.

Hi all!
My name is Mirthe, I'm from the Netherlands and I study in Belgium. This summer I'm going on my first interrail and I am really excited about that! Still thinking about where I will go to exactly, but I start with Austria :)!

Hello from London! I’m a UK based father of two, using Interrail for the first time in 2022 to travel in Germany. We want to avoid flying and make the most of the opportunity to see a bit more by travelling more slowly.

Let me kick this off!

My name is Nanja and I am the Online Community Manager at Eurail. Happy to be here with you and have a chance to create this space for all Eurail and Interrail users (to be), to connect, exchange inspiration and share knowledge with each other 🌍.

I am from the Netherlands and passionate about – yes, no real surprise there – travelling. I especially love to dip into the culture of places around the world and learn and bring home new recipes to enrich my cooking skills 🍴 which is another great passion of mine!  One of my favorite places is Sweden because of its scenic nature and freedom to roam 🌱. In my free time you can also find me looking for inspiration on interior design

This feeling of freedom, with the ever-changing scenic views passing by is what got me to love train travel. The ease of meeting new people and broaden my horizon add to this.

Enough about me, the stage is yours now! 🎤

Hi, I’m John and this will be my first Inter-rail experience. NB: That sounds a bit like Alcoholics Anonymous.

Anyway, I was 25 when Inter-railing started so I’m a little late. I’m from Manchester (UK) but I left there in 1972, and have lived in Belgium, Luxembourg and now Italy. I’ve travelled quite a bit, especially in Eastern Europe and in Italy. For my first inter-rail - there will be more - I have decided to head to Scotland, to the far North, to Orkney, and maybe the Shetlands. I don’t know Scotland at all. I’ll also drop into the Netherlands, Belgium and France.

All you folks with experience, what is your one piece of advice you woud give me?

Cheers

John

Hi I am  Mary, my daughter and I love to travel in Europe and over the past 6 years we have visited 13 countries.  We have only traveled once by train and it was extremely tiring experience pulling into Belgrade 4 hours before our hotel check in.  I look forward to reading the travel experiences of others in this platform and wish you all safe travels:handbag:

Hi  I am looking for different places to travel too.. i looking for fun routes and meeting new people.

Hi there; I’m Nigel & an author.

I’ve been all over the world, but not so much by train. My new pace of life gives me more options now, so looking forward to some train travel. I may have accidentally created a need to go to Italy, as part of some research for my latest creative endeavour

Can’t wait to meet some more randomly interesting, random people.

Hello, This is my first time joining a social media forum. My husband and I are from the United States. We are very eager to get back out into the world! We want to spend as much time traveling as we can. We have circled the United States 5 times and been to Britain twice. We now have our minds set on Europe and train travel. We want to experience the world and other cultures. It is a learning curve we look forward to. We are also food travelers. We love to buy cook books and learn about health, nutrition and different food traditions. I am hoping to get as much advice as I can about booking and making reservations on line as I can as this is also a new adventure. We look forward to connecting with new people.:relaxed:

Hello,

I travel by train often but it’s gonna be my first official interrail from 16th august to 30th august 2022.

Starting to Paris to Amsterdam then heading south to Croatia. 100% flexible.

Before that, I traveled in Europe, Australia, Japan and South Asia. Love to exchange good vibes with other travelers and go on adventures.

Also, I just finished this new website (webapp) to find other interrailers easily in real-time: https://www.inntouch.fr

Looking forward to see you so we can meet-up!

PS: Dear eurail/interrail team, feel free to delete this post if it’s not welcomed. Please keep in mind I created this as a side project and won’t gain money with it, just trying to improve the interrail experience and come back home with lifetime memories. Thank you

I hope I can continue this tradition again in 2021!
