Thanks a bunch rvdborgt! At least that’s a perfect excuse to plan a weekend trip to Germany at the beginning of July and make all reservations at a DB ticket office over there… Love German cities too :)
Thx AnnaB!
rvdborgt, do you know if you need passport numbers to make Renfe reservations? The reason I ask:My son’s passport will expire before our trip and we just requested a new one this afternoon. It will take 1,5 week before we receive a new one and it will be issued with a whole new (yet unknown) passport number. This means that IF passport numbers are required for Renfe reservations, we will have to wait at least 1.5 week before we go to a DB ticket office (Aachen, most likely)...However, the mid august Renfe / AVE trains we want to reserve are not shown on Renfe.com yet, so I guess we will still be on time then, won’t we? Or are there any very popular Renfe connections that are likely to be sold out very quickly?
Thanks Macadv!
Hi there! My name is Ruben and I live in the Netherlands. I’ve made 2 Interrail trips before with my girlfriend (now my wife) :Summer 2014:Utrecht - Kopenhagen - Oslo - Stockholm - Berlin - Prague - Vienna- Budapest -Bucharest - Istanbul - Zagreb - Split - Venice - Milan - Marseille - Barcelona - Madrid - LisbonSummer 2015:Düsseldorf - Warsaw - Krakau - Bratislava - Sofia - Rome - Palermo / Sicily - Cagliari / Sardinia - Various smaller towns on Corsica - Zürich - Arnhem In 2017 our son Pep was born, and this year -after various international cycling holidays combined with train trips- we’re taking him Interrailing for the first time! We wanted to start with a ‘light’ version and bought One Country Passes Spain, after which we discovered that reserving at Renfe isn’t really that ‘light’ anymore in the year 2022… Fortunately, this community has already proven itself very helpful, appreciate it!Cheers, Ruben
Thx again Mcadv, the first two answers (and also the bus Sevilla - Granada) are a relief! And yes, Google rings a bell 😊It not really cost difference I wondered about, mainly ‘convenience difference’ in real life, and the latter was a bit unclear. If we had known that Treinreiswinkel / Happyrail wouldn’t keep their promise about making the reservations I guess we would have bought Renfe passes instead…
We are visiting the same cities this summer, but against our principles we booked a flight from Porto to Seville to save us too much hassle. In recent years we have taken the night train between Madrid & Lisbon / vice versa, which we loved (Lusitania Express it was called, I believe), but it seems to have been wiped out by Covid (to never return)... Such a shame (correct me if I’m wrong)
I agree! By the way: the same friend in Berlin who sent me the article made all our AVE reservations for last summer (yes, in Germany this really works!), and thanks to him we were able to make our round trip all around Spain and Portugal without a single problem…Having traveled by train in most Interrail countries myself however, it’s hard to understand why Spain still combines such a next-century railway network with such a last-century reservation system… But that’s just my two pence 🙂
